Service Opportunity

Yancey County Parks & Recreation is looking for youth volunteers for a flower planting project at Ray Cort Park on Thursday, September 9th at 4:00pm. If you are able, come out to the Park on Thursday to help serve your community! Contact Jordan for more information.

Yancey 4-H Longshots Advance to State Tournament!

On Saturday, August 14th, over 150 youth from Buncombe, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Transylvania, Henderson, Avery and Macon counties competed in the 2021 N.C. 4-H West District Regional Shooting Sports Tournament in Polk County. Eleven club members from Yancey Longshots competed in the Tournament in the Archery, Rifle and Shotgun disciplines.

Caden Wheeler, Macy Carroll, Jaden Shuford, Hudson Hilliard, Becca Carroll and Autumn Smith competed in the Telescopic Small Bore Rifle Class. Liam Ayers, Hunter Geouge, Becca Carroll and Macy Carroll competed as a team in the Compound Archery Class. Nate Pate and Caden Wheeler competed in the Shotgun class, and Mary Grace Holcombe competed in the Hunter/Sporter Compound Archery Class.  Eight of these youth qualified to advance to the State Competition in October, 2021. Congratulations to these youth for their accomplishments!

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Yancey County 4-H is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest for all 4-H’ers ages 5-18! Youth must be a 4-H member to participate in the contest.

New Electric Club

Join us on Monday, September 20th at 4:00pm to learn about our newest club, all about Electricity! Open to youth ages 10-12. Youth will put their hands and minds to work as they tinker and build their own electric projects.

This club will be led by two seasoned Yancey County 4-H Youth volunteers, Derek Heidenfelder and Benjamin Varney who have several years of experience in the 4-H Electric Program.

WNC Mountain State Fair

Yancey County 4-H will be well represented at the 2021 WNC Mountain State Fair! Twelve youth will be competing in Livestock Shows this year. The 2021 WNC Mountain State Fair runs September 10th-19th. Click the link below for more information about the fair.
