2025 NC State 4-H Horsebowl Contest

The 2025 NC State 4-H Horsebowl Contest, a showcase of equine knowledge and quick thinking, was held on March 8th, 2025, at NC State University. Held in conjunction with the State Hippology Contests, the event drew 142 youth participants across 27 teams, competing in Junior, Senior, and Mixed divisions. Additionally, 17 enthusiastic Cloverbud participants, aged 5-7, engaged in four rounds of spirited play, demonstrating their budding equine expertise.

2025 NC State 4-H Hippology Contest

The 2025 NC State 4-H Hippology Contest was held March 8 at NC State University. One hundered and ninety-one junior and senior contestants representing 34 counties were tested on their knowledge of horses through written exams, slide identification items, stations, judging classes and team problems.


Sixteen cloverbuds, ages 5-7, also completed twenty station questions and judging two classes.

This event was sponsored by The Dale Earnhardt Foundation.

2025 NC State 4-H Horse Judging Contest- April 26

The 2025 NC State 4-H Horse Judging Contest is heading to Martin Community College in Williamston on April 26th! Entries are due April 7th.


EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR JUNIOR CONTESTANTS! This year, we're sending a 4-member junior team (ages 13 & under) to the AQHYA World Judging Contest in Oklahoma City this August! The top juniors from both the 8-10 and 11-13 divisions will be invited to try out for a spot. (Junior Rookies are not eligible.) Plus, the coach of the winning Junior Team will be invited to coach our travel team!Don't miss this incredible chance to represent NC! Register today!

2025 NC 4-H State 4-H Horse Show


The NC State 4-H Horse show is coming back to the James B. Hunt Horse Complex July 9-13, 2025 for another exciting week. There will be classes for all levels and disciplines, along with the stall decorating contest (2025 Theme is "Fairy Tales & Story Books"), and the highly anticipated Alumni Showmanship held Saturday night. Make sure to mark your calendars for a week of 4-H fun that you surely do not want to miss!

NC State 4-H Horse Show Exhibitors: 

We will be continuing the exhibitor sponsorship incentive! 4-H’ers that submit completed and paid sponsorships with their State Show Entry form will receive 20% of the sponsorship fees collected off their total show bill. For example, if a 4-H’er turns in $1000 in sponsorships with their entry form, they can deduct $200 off their show fees owed.

Qualifying Horse Show Information

Entry packets the 5 qualifying horse shows will be posted on this page on the EEH website. Deadlines vary by show, so be sure to check the site and read through the packet for the show you plan to attend. Also, the link to the eligibility card request form is linked at the bottom of the same page.

West- April 26 (Postmarked deadline April 11)

North Central- May 10-11 (Postmarked deadline April 11)

Northeast- May 17-18

South Central- May 17-18

Southeast- May 31

NC 4-H Horse Program Stewards

We are looking for new 4-H Horse Program Stewards! Stewards serve in a role that helps interpret the rules and regulations of our program for 4-H members, volunteer leaders, parents, and show management. A Steward has no authority with officiating or managing a show or event. If you are interested in being added to our list of Stewards, please contact Alaina Cross (amparson@ncsu.edu).
