Annual Hiwassee Dam Egg Hunt is April 6th


Every year before Easter our Cherokee County 4-H program teams up with Mrs. Lynn Hamby,  Hiwassee Dam Modern Woodmen, and Hiwassee Dam Fire Department to host the annual community egg hunt. this year the egg hunt will be April 6th at 2:00 p.m. starting with our free hot dog lunch.

Cherokee County 4-H Club Meeting Dates and Times


Cherokee County currently has five active 4-H Clubs. All of our clubs are open to youth ages 5-18 except for our Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club and 4-H Cooking, Crafting, & Community Club. All of our 4-H clubs are free to enroll in.

Gardening Basics Offered By Extension Master Gardeners


Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Cherokee County will be offering free gardening classes each month from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m.  Classes will be held at Konehete Park located at 699B Connahetta Street in Murphy, NC.

This club focuses on being creative with crafts, learning cooking skills, and giving back through community service. Youth will create projects to enter in regional fairs and contest. We will focus on 4-H presentations and community service projects.

Need Your Soil Tested?


Soil Sampling is an important tool for homeowners and gardeners. Farmers have been relying on this information for many years to be successful in growing crops, pasture, and tree farms. Soil sampling materials can be picked up at our office location during normal business hours. We have a self help table located on the 2nd floor in which you can pick-up the boxes, forms, and instructions.

Community Help Desk at Andrews Sunshine Center


The Community Help Desk is a series of drop in events scheduled at different dates, times and locations throughout Cherokee County. In addition to engaging with community members about existing challenges, our discussion is intended to facilitate the discovery and sharing of methods and tools.

Cherokee On the Fly 4-H Club is Open for Enrollment


The members learn to tie flies, learn how to cast so no previous experience is necessary. The club is free to join. Members will also be learning about the environment and different insects and creatures that they are tying fly’s to mimic. Youth do not need to know anything about fly fishing to join the club.

The Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Cherokee County are planning certification training each Wednesday beginning January 7 thru April 22,  2026. This is a selective process that will include interviews. To stay informed and receive the itinerary and application about the training when finalized,  please complete the information below. 4-H Horse Club Competes at State 4-H Horse Bowl


The 2025 NC State 4-H Horsebowl Contest was held on March 8, 2025, in conjunction with the State Hippology Contests on the campus of NC State University. The event drew 142 youth participants across 27 teams, competing in Junior, Senior, and Mixed divisions. Additionally, 17 enthusiastic Cloverbud participants, aged 5-7, engaged in four rounds of spirited play, demonstrating their budding equine expertise.

Want to get more active?

Join our walking group! It's recommended that adults get at least

150 minutes of moderate exercise each week.

We walk every Wednesday at 10:00 AM, meeting at the pavilion

across from the rock gym in Konehete Veterans Park.

On the final Wednesday of each month, we switch things up and walk at a new spot. 

This April, on the 30th, we'll be at Andrews Heritage Park.
