As a reminder, we will NOT be having our normal 4-H Summer Fun program this summer. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this was necessary as we continue to settle into our new facility.
This newsletter includes 4-H opportunities, save the dates, and upcoming deadlines, including (but not limited to):
-Reminders about how to access our new office.
-Animal related (horse, dairy, livestock, poultry) judging & quiz bowl practice & contest info.
-2025 Egg-cellent Egg Project registration is open. Due by August 1.

Below is a picture showing our main building entrance to access our office. Once inside the interior of the Rowan Community Center (they are calling the interior the "concourse"), then you'll go straight, then take a right, and our ag. suite is on the left. Once inside the ag. suite lobby, we are the first door on the right.

4-HOnline is OPEN for 2025 enrollments. As a reminder, your child must be re-enrolled to participate during the 2025 calendar year. Get this done ASAP!
**As you re-enroll, please UPDATE your child's saved information and please make sure it is accurate and correct.

Upcoming Meetings
County Council: for youth ages 12-18 years old as of January 1
**If your child is 12-18 as of Jan 1 and they are interested in County Council, please email Laura to get on the County Council email list for all reminders and updates for this group!
-Next County Council meetings:
-We will NOT meet in July.
-Next meeting will be August 16 from 6-7:30 at the office.
PALS: These meetings are for any parent, alumni, leader or supporter of Rowan County 4-H. If you are interested in 4-H or new to 4-H, you are invited to attend these meetings as well! Please come share your ideas for 4-H and help us find ways to support Rowan County 4-H.
Next meetings:
-August 19 at 6:15 pm (will be an in-person meal & training for ALL official 4-H volunteers)

If interested in participation in 4-H Horse Bowl, Hippology, or Horse Judging, please look into joining the Happy Trails 4-H Club led by 4-H volunteer club leader, Maggie Boreman.
LIVESTOCK: Rowan County 4-H will be having a 2025 Livestock Judging team and a 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl team. Practices are happening now. The NC 4-H livestock contests will be in late July/early August. This opportunity is led by 4-H volunteer Eric Deal.
DAIRY CATTLE: 4-H Dairy Quizbowl & Dairy Judging contests are complete for 2025. If interested in participating in 2026, contact the 4-H Agent.
POULTRY: The 4-H Poultry Judging team is already practicing for their upcoming contest, which is July 9.This is led by the Rowan 4-H Agent & Rowan Livestock Agent.

2025 4-H Egg-Cellent Egg Contest
This contest is open to 4-H'ers across NC
(all details on flyer below).
You must pre-register by August 1 to participate. CLICK HERE to learn more & register.
Please note that it costs $15 to participate in this project. Payment must be made and received before the deadline - either check or money order ONLY.
No cash will be accepted through the mail.

Do you have artwork, crafts, photography, eggs, fruits & vegetables, flowers or other items that you want to enter in the Rowan County Fair?
If so, register your entries NOW to compete in the Rowan County Fair!
Registration opened on June 30, 2025 at http://rowancounty.fairentry.com. The deadline to enter will be September 2, 2025.
All registered entries must be brought to the fairgrounds on Sunday, September 14 from 2-4 pm. Exhibits MUST be tagged and in place by 4 pm.
All exhibits must be picked up on Sunday, September 21 from 2-4 pm.
**Please note that you MUST receive a confirmation of your entry submissions or you are not actually entered. No tags will be handmade at the door this year, so please ensure your that you have your confirmation!
The Rowan County Fair will be held September 15-20, 2025.

Lots of BIG THINGS are happening in Rowan County 4-H!
We are excited to finally have our own 4-H van! This (new to us) 12-passenger van has recently been picked up & detailed and will soon be branded with our name & logos. This has been a goal for many years and we are excited about new opportunities this van will bring!
A huge THANK YOU to the Richard Wainwright Barber Farm Preservation Trust for their recent donation of $17,500 for the Rowan County 4-H program! We are excited to use this money to benefit our program and its 4-H'ers!
We have organized our storage room at the new office! We have shelving (thanks to 4-H'er Ollie Fortune's Eagle Scout Project) and all of our supplies are in new totes that are labeled and organized (thanks to 4-H volunteer Lauren Householder and her help & expertise).

4-H Shout Outs
Congratulations to Callie Yates, a Rowan County 4-H'er who is a member of the Lead Drivers 4-H Club. She was a part of the NC 4-H Small Bore Pistol team that competed nationally this past week in Grand Island, Nebraska in the National 4-H Shooting Sports competition.The Team, was 1ST PLACE IN THE NATION in Small Bore Pistol and placed 1st in all three disciplines: Slow Fire, Silhouettes, Camp Perry (rapid fire). Individually, Callie was the 3rd place Overall Individual for the week in Small Bore Pistol. In each discipline she was: -Slow Fire: 2nd Place -Silhouettes: 9th Place -Camp Perry: 4th Place
Congratulations also to Mason Gabosch, a 4-H'er who is a member of the Hot Shots 4-H Club, who also competed nationally in 4-H shooting sports as a member of the NC Small Bore Rifle team. The team placed 8th overall and Mason was 33rd individually.
Thanks to both of the above 4-H'ers for representing Rowan County 4-H so well at nationals!
Congratulations to Rowan County 4-H'er and Happy Trails 4-H Club member, Kyann Race. She recently tried out for the opportunity to compete nationally with NC 4-H in horse judging and was selected! She will be a part of the NC 4-H Junior National Horse Judging team representing the state of NC in Oklahoma City for the AQHYA world show. This competition will be held in August. Best wishes to Kyann!
Rowan County 4-H'ers competed today at District Activity Day. 8 youth gave 4-H Presentations and 2 also participated in 4-H Entertains. Congratulations to: -Cloverbud participants: Sadie Allen, Jake Ramage, Kurt Thompson -Gold winners (qualifying for State Presentation Finals in July): Luke Allen, Nathan Croyle, John Tucker, Ada Waller -Bronze winner: David Croyle -4-H Entertains: David Croyle, Nathan Croyle
All Gold winners will be competing at State Presentation Finals on July 21 and David Croyle was selected for the State 4-H Entertains talent show on July 23.
Thanks to the Rowan 4-H County Council for volunteering their time at Rowan Helping Ministries on June 10.
4-H'er Carson Halpin spoke about his 4-H experience at the Rowan County Commissioners meeting on June 16. He will be representing Rowan County 4-H at the NC Association of County Commissioners YouthVoice event in late August.

Rowan County 4-H went to Millstone 4-H Camp on June 22-27. A total of 19 youth attended. It was a fun and hot week full of outdoor learning and friendships! Thanks to our donors who helped several of our youth attend: NC 4-H Campership program, Rowan County Extension Master Gardeners, Bill & Sue Davis, TMS Development, Inc.

Rowan 4-H Volunteer Reporting for 2025
If you are registered as a 4-H Volunteer in 4-HOnline it is super important that you report your hours and contacts! This greatly assists Laura with her Extension reports every year, since your hours and contacts must be reported!
Please go to go.ncsu.edu/2025rowan4hvolunteercontacts and complete your reports. Reports are due 10 days after the end of each month (January contacts due by Feb. 10). Email reminders will be sent to those who should be completing reports. It should only take about 5 minutes!
