NC 4-H Congress was held July 21-25 in Raleigh, NC.  Alexander County 4-H was represented by Eowyn Berwick, Finn Berwick, Allie Millsaps, Lucas Hardin and Lucy Icenhour.  We had an awesome week learning, exploring and meeting new people.

The Alexander County WHEP team had a great time representing North Carolina 4-H in the National WHEP Competition in Crossville Tennessee. Our team was represented by Weston Brown, Pita Ortiz, Lucas Hardin, and Eli Dillon.

The team ended the event with a 10th place finish in the National contest, as well as Weston Brown's 19th overall individual score.

These guys worked extremely hard and learned a ton in a short amount of time to prepare for the event. It is a very difficult contest and extremely competitive.
Congratulations to you all, it was a pleasure coaching you and watching you learn.

Alexander 4-H Summer Opportunities Wrap-up
Another busy month for Alexander 4-H with summer programming, but so much fun.  July started with Farm to Fork.  Participants visited area farms and grabbed produce and products to bring back to our kitchen and use in recipes.  Thanks to the area farms for hosting our group:  Campbells Berry Farm, The Farmer's Daughter, Chapman's Dairy, Danny Price Bees, and Deal's Orchards.

The next camp to be held was Mad Scientist where our younger age group became scientists.  Participants took everyday household items and used them to explore and think.  The remainder of that week STEM Camp was held with the older youth.  STEM activities provide hands on and minds on learning lessons.  Rockets, battlebots and chemistry experiments were completed with this group all while having fun.

Next, 4-H offered a Jr Master Gardener Camp .  Participants learned the basics of Gardening and had some fun hands on programing

The last camp offered in July was Discovery Day Camp.  Each day participants visited a different place to be educated all while having fun.  Places the group ventured to were:  Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mountain, Riverbend Creamery,  and Discovery Place.

Lastly our 4-H20 Camp was a blast. We did some local creek surveys and macro-invertebrate surveys, canoeing, toured Haywood Community college, camped in teepees for two nights and went white water rafting.
