This fall, McDowell County & other regional farmers are invited to come together for Farmers First: Connect. Recover. Grow.-a field day dedicated to helping producers recover, rebuild, & grow from the lasting impacts of Hurricane
Helene. Farmers First Field Day will bring together experts, agencies, & hands-on demonstrations to help you find practical tools for recovery and growth.
The WNC AgOptions Grant program supports farmers in the mountain region by providing funding for projects that will improve their farm businesses. The grant focuses on helping farmers diversify their income streams, increase sustainability, and explore new ag ventures.

Lake James Clean Up Fall 2025
The N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell Center “Keep McDowell Beautiful” program will be coordinating the annual Lake James clean-up on Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. We would like to invite everyone to remove litter from Lake James and its shoreline.

McDowell 4-H Young Guns Compete at Regional 4-H Tournament
On August 9, McDowell 4-Hers joined over 200 youth from all over WNC to compete in this year's West Region 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament at Polk County Gun Club. Several youth from McDowell qualified for the state 4-H Tournament.
NC State University and N.C. A&T State University work in tandem, along with federal, state and local governments, to form a strategic partnership called N.C. Cooperative Extension.
