Virtual Cooking Series

Get information from 5 different University Extension programs during this weekly virtual cooking series to learn exciting culinary skills. This series will take place each week on Tuesdays, September 30 – November 18 at 2:00 p.m. (EST). Topics include ice cream making, cooking for 1 or 2, healthy lunches, charcuterie board basics, gluten-free cooking, holiday gifts from the kitchen, salmon, and cooking with cactus. Add Calcium & Protein

Join us on Thursday, October 2 at 12:00pm for this free virtual Zoom workshop on "Making Meals with Calcium and Protein". We will discuss portion sizes and nutrition labels, selecting foods low in fat, sodium and sugar; making easy, nutritious meals you can make at home, and choosing the right foods for your health and body. Take Care of Your Health

Join us on Tuesday, October 7 at 12:00pm for our Mental Health & Self-Care Lunch N' Learn. We will provide practical ways to care for your mind and body. Whether you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or just curious - this event is for you. We will once again have Katrina Wesley as our guest speaker. She will talk about self-care planning, host a discussion on mental health, coping techniques and mindfulness.  It is $5 to register and the money is due by October 3 to Room 123 of the Extension Office.

Get Well Today

Get Ready, Start Moving and Keep Going in our next Extension workshop on Wednesday, October 8 at 12:00pm at the South Granville Public Library at 1550 S. Campus Drive in Creedmoor, NC. Learn about the 4 types of exercise recommended for adults and how they can benefit you, see how much exercise is recommended, how to safely exercise, and get tips and tools to help you get started and stay on track with exercise.

Sleep & Heart Health

Come out on Saturday, October 11 from 10am - 2pm to Lowes Home Improvement Store for Fire Prevention Day, a family fun day of learning about fire prevention!!! This event is hosted annually by the local fire departments and the Extension Office plans to be on site with a booth promoting disaster preparedness, fire and cooking safety, etc. Hope to see you there!!

Holiday Budgeting Magic

Holidays stressing you out? Let us help! Join us for the next Extension At Home virtual workshop, brought to you by a collaboration of N.C. Cooperative Extension Agents. On Tuesday, October 21 at 10:00am, join us to learn about effective holiday budgeting and spending strategies that can help improve overall financial wellness. Crunch With Us!!

Grab a crunchy fruit or vegetable and join us on Wednesday, October 22 at 12:00 p.m. for a Facebook Live  as we celebrate NC Crunch Day by tasting and learning about North Carolina-grown fruits and veggies. Information and recipes will be shared afterwards. October is celebrated as Farm to School and Early Care and Education Month in North Carolina.

Cancer Awareness 

Person Family Medical & Dental Centers presents 50 Shades of Cancer on Friday, October 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Piedmont Community College, Building S-100. Come, bring your family, enjoy an event filled with love, entertainment, supporting vendors (including the Extension Office who will have a booth), delicious food, & door prizes, and more. 

Falls Prevention Week

Person County Schools & Alliance for a Healthier Generation are teaming up with the Person County Extension Office to host another Food Distribution event on Saturday, October 25 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at South Elementary School. We will be giving out 200 food boxes to individuals who register and visit the vendor booths. Sign up today at go.ncsu.edu/foodboxes to secure a box.

Get Spooky With Us!!

A Halloween Exercise & Craft Workshop will be held on Thursday, October 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Person County Senior Center. We’ll have a spooky good time with a fun 30-minute cardio, strength, and flexibility workout. It is FREE to attend, but please register. After the exercise, participants will be invited to complete a Wooden Pumpkin Craft. Participants are also encouraged to wear a Halloween themed shirt or costume.

Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen

One of the best gifts to give someone is a homemade gift. Join us for our “Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen” zoom workshop on Tuesday, November 4 at 2:00pm.  Making food-related gifts for your friends and family can be a wonderful way to put a personal touch on the holiday and get creative while doing it.
