National 4-H Week

This year’s National 4-H Week is October 5–11, and the theme is Beyond Ready!

National 4-H Week is a time to celebrate the impact of 4-H and the ways it helps young people prepare for college, careers, and life. Across North Carolina, 4-H members, alumni, volunteers, and supporters will come together to showcase how 4-H youth are not just ready for the future, but how they are Beyond Ready.

4-H News: 2025 WNC Dairy Steer Project Concludes with a Record Year!

Twenty youth from eight different counties in WNC participated in the 2025 WNC Dairy Steer Project. This program started in May, where 4-H'ers received a bottle calf and over the next five months, would learn how to care for, raise, and show their calves. The project concluded with participants showing their calves at the NC Mountain State Fair Beef Show. The calves were sold at the end of the program and youth receive the proceeds from the sale of their calf. Many youth participants will use these funds to purchase another livestock project animal to continue furthering their knowledge of animal husbandry and livestock ownership.

This project introduces youth to livestock showing, feeding and care, and teaches many valuable life skills along the way. This year, participants received a record price per pound thanks to the generous support of many local sponsors. We would like to thank Purina & Performance Feed, WNC Beef Commission and Farm Bureau for making this program possible!
