Tax Security Awareness for Small Businesses

Tax scams are on the rise and small businesses are often prime targets.  Cybercriminals use phishing emails, fake tax filings, and identity theft to steal sensitive information that can cost you time, money, and even your reputation.  Being aware of these threats helps you:

  • Protect your business finances
  • Safeguard employee and client data
  • Stay compliant with IRS requirements
  • Respond quickly and effectively

By staying informed, you can strengthen your defenses and ensure your business remains secure during tax season and beyond.

The USDA, IRS, and SBA have partnered to offer this webinar Wednesday, December 3 from 1-3 p.m.  Register online.
Empowering Women in Forestry: Join the ForestHer Movement!

Who are we? In January 2019, a passionate group of natural resource professionals and dedicated private forest landowners came together to launch the ForestHer NC program. Our mission? To support, educate, and empower women landowners and natural resource professionals in their vital roles as stewards of North Carolina's forests. With a diverse team representing a wide array of experiences in women-focused conservation, we’re on a quest to nurture healthy, sustainable forest ecosystems throughout the state.

Why focus on women? The importance is staggering! Between 2006 and 2013, the percentage of family forest ownership with a woman as the primary decision-maker doubled! Today, these trailblazing women influence decisions across an impressive 44 million acres of North America's family forest land—representing a significant 16% of all family forest holdings. At ForestHer NC, we are committed to empowering women and other marginalized genders to take an active role in land stewardship. Our programming embraces all marginalized genders, including women-identifying individuals, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people, and we strive to create a welcoming space that honors their unique experiences as forest stewards. We deeply acknowledge the intersectionality of race, gender, and identity and aim to provide inclusive and accessible programming for all.

FACT's FACT's Fund-a-Farmer grants are now OPEN! The deadline to apply is Saturday January 3, 2026 @11:59pm ET

Grant awardees are announced at the end of February 2026 with fund dispersal the 2nd week in March. Projects should be completed by June 1, 2027

We have two different Fund-a-Farmer grant opportunities again this season:
You can apply for both!

You can apply for either grant or both. If you are lucky enough to be awarded both grants, you will only receive funding for one. Learn more about each grant type on FACT's grant page.

Our Fund-a-Farmer grants are very competitive as such, each farm or individual can only be awarded a grant once every 2 years. This means if you received a grant in 2025 you’ll need to sit this year out. You are, however, eligible to apply for a Systems & Innovation Grant if your project fulfills the criteria.

We explain our Fund-a-Farmer grant in our most recent webinar Getting your Farm Funded: Understanding FACT’s Fund-a-Farmer Grants in 2025
AFGC 2026 Registration is now Open

Need Hay?  NC Extension Offers New Online Hay Listing Service

NC State Extension, with the generous financial support of NC Farm Bureau and NC Cattlemen’s, has launched a new tool for connecting those needing hay with those who have hay to sell.  The newly launched website, https://www.nchayfinder.com, allows you to search for hay by your zip code.  You can then sort by distance, type of hay, or price.  If you have hay for sale, you can create a listing by creating an account.  If you have any questions, please contact Sara Drake.
NC State University and N.C. A&T State University work in tandem, along with federal, state and local governments, to form a strategic partnership called N.C. Cooperative Extension.
