Soil Test Fees - Most of the year (generally April through late November), routine North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA & CS) soil tests are provided at "no direct cost" to N.C. residents because of funding derived from a statewide fee on commercial fertilizer. However, a peak-season fee of $4 per box is charged for the processing of all soil samples received at NCDA from the day after Thanksgiving through March 31st. Soil test boxes, forms and brochures are available anytime outside our office in the message center located at the corner of our demonstration garden.
