Dining With Diabetes

Dining with Diabetes is a cooking and nutrition education program designed for people with diabetes and their family members or caregivers. In a series of four classes on Thursdays, January 8, 15, 22, 29 at 12:00pm EST, we will help you learn healthy techniques to use in your own kitchen. Learn to face winter with confidence!

Living Healthy in the Golden Years

From eating the right food to the perfect exercise routine, find the best path to a healthier and happier you. Join us on Thursday, January 15 at 10:30am at the Richard H Thornton Library in Granville County for this free workshop on how to live healthier; move more; reduce salt, fat and sugar; manage chronic illnesses and give back by volunteering. 

Listen to our Weekly Program

Every Friday, the Cooperative Extension Office hosts the Gardener’s Corner program on WKRX 96.7 Radio Roxboro. Be sure to listen on Friday, January 16 at 11:00 a.m. for the Family Consumer Science (FCS) Extension Agent, Jennifer Brown. Also, every Friday, the FCS program hosts a weekly 5-minute podcast around 1:00 p.m. You can listen online at radioroxboro.com

Lunch N' Learns Schedule

Every month, our FCS Program hosts a Lunch N' Learn workshop at the Person County Office Building. They are currently scheduled for the 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 12:00pm. Cost is $5 for each. We have picked our topics so you can go ahead and plan to attend the workshops that interest you. Each participant receives a packet of materials, along with some potential goodies, and a healthy, delicious lunch. We hope you can join us during the first half of 2026. 

Pantry Makeover Time!

Having a healthy, stocked pantry can solve a meal challenge in a flash. Learn how to choose items for your pantry that are nutritious, have a long shelf life and can be used to make easy and delicious meals. Select heart-healthy staples from a mock pantry and transform them into a tasty family dinner. Join us for a "Pantry Makeover" on Tuesday, January 20 at 12:00pm at the Person County Extension Office for our monthly Lunch N' Learn. Registration is $5 and must be paid by Friday, January 16.

Anti-Inflammatory Approach

An anti-inflammatory diet may help reduce chronic inflammation — a prolonged response to how your body handles danger. Chronic inflammation can damage your heart, brain and other organs. So, how can the foods you eat contribute to how you feel? Join the Extension Office on Wednesday, January 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the South Granville Public Library to learn more about anti-inflammatory diets, how to reduce inflammation and separate myths from facts.

Green Cleaning

Over the past few months, we have been preparing our home for visitors, and part of preparing for visitors is cleaning your house. Join the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Person County Center on Thursday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m. to learn the difference between cleaning and sanitizing, which cleaners are effective, and how to make your own green cleaning recipes. Coping During Uncertain Times

Join the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences on Thursday, January 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. for the “Women’s Health Awareness workshop “Coping During Uncertain Times”, and they will provide strategies for managing stress and building resilience during times of uncertainty. It’s estimated that North Carolinians spend $35 billion on food every year. If each of us spent 10% of our grocery budget on local food, $3.5 billion would flow into our local food economy!  Support local this January and buy some of these delicious NC products from a farmer near you!!

ECA Scholarship Due Feb. 2

The North Carolina Extension and Community Association, better known as NCECA, offers an Annual Scholarship for youth and adults at the state and county levels. The NCECA State Scholarship is worth $800 and the Person County ECA Scholarship is worth up to $300, for a potential total of $1,100 to go towards your education. Food Safety Course

The Person County Cooperative Extension will be offering an in-person “NC Safe Plates” for all those who work in the food service industry. “NC Safe Plates” will be offered at the Person County Office Building on Mondays and Tuesdays, February 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. each day with the exam on Thursday, February 12th, 2026. Participants who pass the exam will receive a certificate required for inspections. The registration fee is $150 and is due by Wednesday, January 14th along with the registration form.
