Pro Garden Series Classes 2026


Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Cherokee County will be offering a series of Pro Gardening classes beginning January 14. The classes will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Extension Education Annex  for participants who wants to learn about gardening but are not quite ready to become an Extension Master Gardener.

4-H Annual Plant Sale to Begin in February


Cherokee County 4-H is once again getting geared up to conduct its annual plant and fruit tree sale. All proceeds will go to Cherokee County 4-H. As usual, the plants and trees will be of high quality and reasonably priced. The plant and tree sale starts on February 1 and ends the middle of March. Plants will be available for pick up in April.

CPR, AED and First Aid Training in Cherokee County


The North Carolina Agromedicine Institute will be offering a free CPR, AED, and First Aid Training in Cherokee County Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Extension Education Annex in Murphy, NC. Training will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 noon.

Enroll or Re-Enroll in 4-H 2026


North Carolina 4-H utilizes an enrollment system for all new and existing 4-H members and volunteers. The online enrollment system is called 4-HOnline. If you created a new family profile in the 4-H Online system during the 2025 program year – or – if you re-enrolled from a previous year – you have to update that record for the new 2026 – 2027 programmatic year.

Cherokee County 4-H Clubs Meeting Dates and Times


Cherokee County has some great 4-H Clubs. All of our clubs are open to youth ages 5-18 except for our Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club and 4-H Cooking, Crafting, & Community Club. Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club is open to grades 6-12. 4-H Cooking, Crafting, & Community Club is open to all youth ages 12-18. All of our 4-H clubs are free to enroll in.

Venison Donation Program Success 

Thank you to everyone who contributed to a successful second year of the Extension Venison Donation Program. The program expanded from Cherokee County into Graham and Clay Counties. Donations more than doubled this year and venison from 10 deer served 8 food pantries. Venison donated totaled to 373 lbs with 1,492 meals provided to food insecure individuals. The Graham County Five Points Pantry Director, Misty Shope reports "Thank you so much for including us in the Venison Donation program and for expanding it into Graham County. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of this initiative and to help provide such a valuable resource to our community."
