First of all, I apologize for the delay in this newsletter (which usually comes out on the 1st of the month). With the snowy weather and lots of planning and preparation happening for upcoming events, it's been a busy time. I hope you and your family enjoyed the snowy weather and are gearing up for a lots of upcoming 4-H fun!

4-HOnline is OPEN for 2026 enrollments! If you plan for your child to participate in 2026, please get enrolled NOW. If you are a returning 4-H volunteer, ENROLL NOW!
**As you re-enroll, please UPDATE your child's saved information and please make sure it is accurate and correct.
**If your child is in a shooting sports club, you MUST select all the "projects" related to the disciplines they will be participating in, as there are specific additional waivers for shooting sports.

Upcoming Meetings
County Council: for youth ages 12-18 years old as of January 1
**If your child is 12-18 as of Jan 1 and they are interested in County Council, please email Laura to get on the County Council email list for all reminders and updates for this group!
-Next County Council meetings: -February 26, 6-8:30 pm at the Rowan County Events Center to set up and practice for Achievement Night (bring your parents to help)
-March 16, 6-7:30 PM at the Extension office
PALS: These meetings are for any parent, alumni, leader or supporter of Rowan County 4-H. If you are interested in 4-H or new to 4-H, you are invited to attend these meetings as well! Please come share your ideas for 4-H and help us find ways to support Rowan County 4-H.

Help our 4-H program & our intern by completing the
NEW
Rowan County 4-H Evaluation & Needs Assessment
Intern Reagan has hit the ground running! One of her first tasks was to create a new Rowan County 4-H Evaluation & Needs Assessment.
Please take 15 minutes to complete the form. If you are reading this, then this evaluation & needs assessment is for you to complete!
This form will:
-ask questions about potential interest in 4-H (if you aren't already involved)
-evaluate your thoughts on the 4-H clubs your child is involved in
-evaluate what your child has gained and hopes to gain through 4-H
-ask questions regarding your ideas for improvement, new programming or continued programming
& more
**If your family is not involved in 4-H or your child is in 4-H but not in a 4-H club, then you will be directed to questions that apply to you and you will skip the club questions.

PREPARE NOW for completing 4-H Project Record Books & Portfolios for the 2026 year!
**They will be due in January 2027.**
Project Record Books (if you need it printed, please let Mrs. Laura know ASAP). A NEW digital Project Record Book system is supposed to roll out in March 2026. More details will be shared as the state rolls it out.

Rowan County 4-H is heading to Millstone 4-H Camp this summer on June 21-26, and we want your child to be part of the adventure! Scholarships are available!
Don't wait! We only have 6 spots left! Give your child a summer experience they'll always remember!

Rowan County 4-H Achievement Night
recognizing 2025 4-H achievements
Friday, February 27, 2026
7 PM
Rowan County Events Center
Join us as we recognize our 4-H'ers involved in 4-H clubs and who have had participation & success during the 2025 4-H year!
1. Families will need to RSVP to attend the Achievement Program in 4-HOnline under "events". RSVP deadline EXTENDED to Feb. 17.
2. County Council has chosen the theme "Lights, Camera, 4-H!
3. This year's 4-H Achievement Night will be a sit-down program, however, we WILL NOT have a meal. Instead, we will have popcorn and drinks available during the program and NC State Howling Cow ice cream at the conclusion. Please plan accordingly.

Apply NOW for Rowan County 4-H Event Grants! Youth can receive up to $150 in Cloverbucks to go towards more expensive 4-H event costs (including 4-H horse shows, shooting sports tournaments, 4-H Camp, national 4-H trips, 4-H Congress, etc).
Applications are due by April 15 and should be completed BY THE 4-H'ER.

Graduating High School Seniors
4-H'ers who are high school seniors may be eligible to apply for NC 4-H Scholarships for college. CLICK HERE to access some local 4-H scholarship applications and/or local scholarships that 4-H'ers may be eligible for.

ROWAN COUNTY 4-H SUMMER FUN
Registration will look different this year. CLICK HERE to closely read ALL INSTRUCTIONS about how to enroll as a 4-H member in 4-HOnline (if you haven't yet for 2026) and how to register for 4-H Summer Fun via 4-HOnline "events"!

HORSE: If you want to stay up-to-date on all things related to the NC 4-H Horse Program, click here to sign up to receive their newsletter. Click here to access the main page for the NC 4-H Horse Program to learn more.
If interested in participation in 4-H Horse Bowl, Hippology, or Horse Judging, please contact Mrs. Laura. Practices have already begun.
LIVESTOCK: Rowan County 4-H will begin practicing in April for the 2026 NC 4-H Livestock Judging contest, held in in late July/early August. This opportunity is led by 4-H volunteer Eric Deal. Contact Mrs. Laura if interested.
DAIRY CATTLE: The NC 4-H Dairy Quizbowl contest will be held on March 7, 2026 & the NC 4-H Dairy Judging contest will be April 10 If interested in participating in 2026, contact the 4-H Agent. Practices have already begun.
POULTRY: The 4-H Poultry Judging contest is held annually in July. Practices typically start in April/May. This is led by the Rowan 4-H Agent & Rowan Livestock Agent. Contact Mrs. Laura if interested.

Rowan 4-H Volunteer Reporting for 2026
If you are registered as a 4-H Volunteer in 4-HOnline it is super important that you report your hours and contacts! This greatly assists Laura with her Extension reports every year, since your hours and contacts must be reported!
Please go to go.ncsu.edu/2026rowan4hvolunteercontacts and complete your reports. Reports are due 10 days after the end of each month (January contacts due by Feb. 10). Email reminders will be sent to those who should be completing reports. It should only take about 5 minutes!
