Flying High with Ag Drones - March 3 |

This workshop explores how UAVs are transforming modern agriculture—from a once “high-tech hobby” into essential farm equipment. Drones are highly versatile tools, capable of applying herbicides for targeted weed control, spreading seed across pastures, and much more. Participants will also learn what it takes to become a licensed UAV operator.
Will be held at the East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center (1175 Kingsboro Rd, Rocky Mount, NC)

Agritourism Workshop - March 13
Are you interested in adding agritourism activities on your farm, but not sure where to start? Join us in Nash County for a morning all about agritourism! We’ll have both NC State Tourism Extension’s Ann Savage and NC Farm School’s Derek Washburn with us to walk through what agritourism can be on your farm and how to get started. You will also get to talk with several local successful agritourism operations.
Who this workshop is for:
This workshop is designed for farmers interested in learning about agritourism, exploring its feasibility for their farm, and getting guidance on steps for getting started.
What we will cover in this workshop:
Introduction to agritourism and example activities
Guidance on how to assess if agritourism might be a good fit for your farm business
Developing and sustaining a business concept for agritourism activities
Identifying business resources and addressing risks
How to launch and grow your business through customer experiences and marketing
You’ll also walk away with a list of next steps to start or expand your agritourism operation!
Come ready to share your agritourism aspirations! We look forward to helping you explore whether agritourism is right for you!

Tri-County Ag Day - March 7
The Eastern Carolina 4-H Livestock Show and Sale Alumni Association is hosting the Tri-County Ag Day on March 7th to educate the public about animal agriculture and raise funds for 4-H members in Nash, Edgecombe and Halifax counties.
Come out and see the 4-H members with their animals while you shop with the many vendors.

2026 NC Small Ruminant Educational Series
Dr. Heather Glennon, Nash County Cooperative Extension Director, will be speaking on March 3rd about two common health problems in sheep and goats: urinary calculi and coccidia. You can listen in person at the Johnston County Extension Office or at home via zoom.

2026 Winter Horse Educational Series
Horse owners in the area are invited to participate in the 2026 Winter Horse Educational Series at the Franklin County Extension Center Annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Meetings will begin with a sponsored meal at 5:30 p.m., followed by the educational programs. Cost $20 per session includes dinner. Meetings will be conducted on the following dates.
Thursday, February 26th – Speaker, Dr. Paul Siciliano, Professor – Equine Nutrition and Management Department, Extension Leader, NCSU, “Get the scoop on sugars, starch and other carbohydrates in hay for horses”, and “Overview of Forage Carbohydrate Analyses – what they are, and how to use them in feeding horses.” Register by Feb. 25th at the following link: http://go.ncsu.edu/2026-horse-series-meeting2
