4-H Plant Sale Time is Here!

Cherokee County 4-H is holding its annual plant and fruit tree sale. All proceeds will benefit Cherokee County 4-H. As usual, the plants and trees will be high-quality and reasonably priced. The sale runs from February 1 through March 13, 2026.

Extension Master Gardener's: Pro Series Classes
|
|
Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Cherokee County will be offering a series of Pro Gardening classes beginning January 14. The classes will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Extension Annex for participants who wants to learn about gardening but are not quite ready to become an Extension Master Gardener.

Skill Explorers: Sewing Discovery

A vibrant energy filled the classroom at Murphy Head Start today as the next generation of creatives embarked on a journey of threads and gears. Through a partnership between Tamra Corley Dunn (Leader of the Sew Much Fun Sewing Club ECA) and Marlana Baker (Family & Consumer Science Agent), the Skill Explorers: Sewing Discovery program brought the art and science of sewing to life for local students.

Local 4-H Youth Compete and Win at West District 4-H Horse Bowl!
|
|
The West District 4-H Horse Bowl was held on Saturday, February 7, at Southwestern Community College in Sylva. Twelve 4-H teams were competing: 3 Junior, 6 Mixed(Juniors and Seniors), and 3 Senior, for the opportunity to advance to the State competition in March. Teams came from the following counties: Cherokee, Graham, Burke, Jackson, Caldwell, Buncombe, Rutherford, and Avery. Teams consisted of four to five 4-H members who live in one of the 22 Western counties of North Carolina.

US Dept of Labor Publishes Digital Literacy Standard
|
|
The Executive Order Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence was signed on December 11, 2025. The document established a deadline for Federal agencies to make several key determinations by March 11, 2026. A primary mandate is to specify appropriate uses for funds that have been appropriated by Congress which remain unspent.
