Buncombe County 4-H is excited to announce our 2026 4-H Summer Fun program for youth ages 5-18! Join us this summer for day camps about agriculture, cooking, canning, crafting and more!

2026 Tri-County 4-H Pumpkin Project


Calling all young growers in Buncombe, Henderson & Transylvania Counties!

The Tri-County 4-H Pumpkin Project is here and we want YOU to grow with us!


Pick up your free supply kit (seeds, soil, fertilizer, trowel + more), follow your Pumpkin Project Card, and grow your pumpkin from seed to harvest. Enter it in the Mountain State Fair and you could win prizes!


Open to 4-H'ers ages 5–18. Whether you're a first-time gardener or a seasoned grower, this one's for you!

2026 4-H Dog Artistic Expressions Competition


North Carolina youth are invited to show off their creativity and furry friends by participating in the fourth annual 4-H Dog Artistic Expression Competition.


The contest is open to youth ages 5-18 and there are eight different categories!

4-H Outdoor Cookery Workshop


This workshop will explain the process of preparing for a 4-H outdoor cookery presentation. Come prepared to get your hands messy as we learn by doing! *No prior cooking or grilling experience is required! We will teach you everything you need to know to be successful in this program!


4-Hers ages 8-18 as of January 1st are invited to attend, as well as parents/adults!

Gary Stamey Junior Beef Scholarship


Applications for the 2026 Gary Stamey Junior Beef Scholarship are now open! High School seniors living in WNC who have participated in beef shows are eligible for this scholarship. Applications are due by Friday, May 1st!

Registrations for the 2026 WNC Spring Fling are now open! This is a great local opportunity for youth to gain beef show experience. Registrations are due by April 11th!

Presentation 101 Workshop


4-H Presentations are a huge part of North Carolina 4-H. It is one of the most successful ways to help a young person learn public speaking skills. It focuses on 4-H members teaching others what they know about a particular project/subject matter of their choice!


This workshop will explain the process of preparing for a presentation. Come prepared to share a topic of interest because we may even begin planning your 4-H presentation for County Activity Day!

Sow, Grow, Go! Summer Horticulture Opportunities with NC State


NC State has several awesome upcoming opportunities for youth interested in horticulture! 


Horticulture Camp

If you could imagine yourself spending a week this summer climbing trees, breeding flowers, snacking on peaches straight from the orchard, or digging into other horticultural activities we invite you to apply to the Horticulture Science Summer Institute (HSSI) at NC State University from July 5-10, 2026! This in person, weeklong, residential pre-college program is for high school youth to explore the wonderful world of horticulture.

Resource Conservation Workshop

The Resource Conservation Workshop is a weeklong intensive study and hands on conservation workshop requiring student application and participation in a wide range of conservation topics.  The workshop is intended to engage students to learn about natural resources and their management in today’s environment. Students participate in field study, tours, hands-on sessions as well as evening activities that focus on college-decision making and career decisions.  Awards and scholarships are won and presented to the students under several awards programs.

Buncombe County 4-H Needs You!


Buncombe County 4-H is currently seeking passionate adult volunteers to assist in implementing the following 4-H programs: STEM & Electricity, Cooking and Sewing classes. The time commitment is flexible with your schedule and you will be making a lasting positive impact on kids in your community!


Volunteers are the key to success in the Buncombe County 4-H program. Whether you’re interested in starting a club and becoming a club leader or just have a few hours to invest, we have challenging and fun jobs for adults who want to make a difference in the lives of Buncombe County youth!
