The Person County Extension Community Association (ECA) members have been invited to join the Orange and Caswell County ECA members at their Berries and Blooms event on Thursday, May 7 at 10:00am. We will visit the NC Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill for a self-guided tour, and then we will travel to Eno River Farms in Hillsborough for fresh strawberries and local ice cream. Did you know strawberries have about 200 seeds?

Getting A Good Night Sleep |
Join us at the Mountain Creek Community Building on Thursday, May 7 at 7:00pm for our "Getting A Good Night Sleep" workshop. It is free to attend and all are welcome to attend. We will discuss how your routine can affect your good night’s sleep, why sleep is so important to your health, and how to develop good sleeping habits. We will have handouts and materials available for participants in attendance.

Buzz about Pollinators |
Bees and other pollinators are essential for our ecosystem and our food supply. Many groups of bugs, animals, plants, and even humans move pollen grains from one plant to another to cause fertilization. Pollinators play a huge part in helping with increasing food security, yet they are facing dwindling numbers. Join us on Tuesday, May 19 at 12:00pm for our monthly Lunch N' Learn as we discuss what you can do to help support them and learn some delicious honey recipes. This workshop costs $5 and payment is due by Friday, May 15.

Versatile Pantry |
On Wednesday, May 20 from 11am - 12pm, we will be hosting a free in-person workshop at the South Granville Library in Creedmoor discussing how to have a “Versatile Pantry”. Participants will learn the benefits of keeping staple items in your pantry, strategies for creating a stocked pantry, how to recognize ways to organize and keep track of food in the pantry, and we will discuss a variety of meals that can be prepared from a set of staple ingredients.

Fall Prevention Series |
Are you concerned about falls? Are you interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength? Join us for "A Matter of Balance", an evidence-based program specifically designed to reduce the fear of falling and improve activity levels among older adults. The Person County Senior Center and NC Cooperative Extension - Person County Center are teaming up to hold this eight-week class Mondays, June 1 - July 21 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. To register, call the senior center at (336)599-7484.

Person County Farmers Market Opening Day |
Big things are happening with the 2026 Person County Farmers Market! This year they're stepping away from the Madison Blvd location and holding a monthly event-style market at Heritage, a Gathering Place, located at 4431 Durham Road. This will be a pop-up market taking place on the first Saturday of each month, starting on Saturday, May 2 from 8am - 12pm. Each market will have music, kids activities, and much more! Rutgers University Extension will host a virtual Zoom "Growing the 8 Dimensions of Wellness in the Garden" workshop on Tuesday May 5 from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. This class introduces the 8 Dimensions of Wellness defined by SAMHSA and explores how gardening and seasonal eating can support each dimension.
