The Foothills Regional Commission, in collaboration with the McDowell County Government, is seeking input from agricultural producers and consumers in the development of the County Farmland Protection Plan. The surveys are designed to gain a better understanding of local needs, challenges, and priorities to guide the future of farmland preservation efforts.
USDA Block Grant- Deadline Extended
If your farm suffered losses from Hurricane Helene, there is still time to apply for financial assistance through the USDA Block Grant Disaster Assistance Program. The application deadline has been extended to June 12, 2026.
Livestock Forage Program Assistance

McDowell 4-H partnered with twenty-two 2nd grade classrooms in all 8 elementary schools in McDowell to teach local youth about the life cycle through a hands-on embryology project. We had our most successful hatch!
