July 2026

Please Give Us Your Feedback

Learn By Doing - have you ever heard that 4-H motto?  Please take a few minutes to help us improve.  Our 4-H staff and volunteers would love to hear what suggestions you have to improve what 4-H has to offer.  This survey is anonymous so please let us know how we can improve.

West Region 4-H Shooting Tournament

The West Region 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament for all outdoor events will be Saturday, August 8th at Polk County Gun Club. July is our month to sign up for competition.  Please talk with your shooting coaches to let them know you are interested and to figure out which disciplines are best for you.  Registration fee is $6.00 per youth, per discipline and $15 for each t-shirt your family would like to purchase.  Please let your coaches or Tammara know what you will be shooting and what size t-shirts you would like by July 17th.

Club Corner
Macon Hoofprints Horse Club

This is has a been a busy month for the horse club.  Four member visited the West District 4-H Clinic and worked with a barrel racing trainer and then worked cows with their horses.  The club also practiced many hours to perform at  JR Rodeo with a half-time drill team pattern.  That is a lot of pressure under the light with 1,000 people cheering you on.  Way to go brave horse and rider teams!!  This month we will meet at the Cooperative Extension Office on Wednesday July 15th at 5:30.
Macon Archers

We will meet on Thursday July 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.  All skill levels are meeting at the same time.  Please arrive between 5 and 5:30 depending on your parents work schedule and we will shoot until 6:30.  Please bring a water bottle.
We are registering now for our West District 4-H Shooting Tournament that will be held on Saturday August 8th.  Please call or email Tammara by July 17th so that we know which competition you are interested in.

Macon Sharp Shooters

Please also speak to your coaches about what you would like to shoot at the August 9th tournament.

Our practice this month will be on Saturday July 11th and 18th at 10:00am.

Top Chefs

In June, we made our own hand rolled sushi and added in lots and lots of veggies.  This month, we will continue our culinary travels and make dessert from Germany - fruit crepes.  Please join us on Tuesday July 14th at 3:45.
Sassy Stitchers

Thank you to our Sassy Stitchers for their time and dedication to our June service project.  They made bunches of fun pillowcases for others that may need a smile.  Thank you for sharing your talent.  We will be off in July but see you again after school starts.

Macon 4-H Beekeepers

In June we were able to put on our supers for the sourwood honey flow.  This is the most important time of the year for mountain beekeepers.  We can't wait for everyone to taste some in August.   This month we will meet on Wednesday July 15th and 29th at 5:30.  It is time we get into extracting and bottling our honey.

4-H Market Lamb Club

Thank you to the Jackson County Farm Bureau Women for providing us supper this month.  We have had multiple practices and are learning so much about our lambs.  We will meet on Thursday July 16th at 6:00pm.  We have dewormer drench and will do a preventative drench on the 16th.   Please let us know if you need to check out lamb sheers to clip your animal.

Macon Mountain Goats

We will meet on Tuesday July 14th at Ms. Cindy's farm for show and obstacle course practice.  Please join us at 6:30.

Livestock Judging Team

The team has two trips this month.  They will travel to a Regional Livestock Judging Clinic with other teams from across the district on July 14-15.  Also they will attend State Livestock Judging on July 30 - August 1st.  Please check with Joe about what time to meet and what you need to bring.
