September is here, and I’m excited to see our 4-H program getting back into full swing! With the new school year underway, several of our 4-H clubs will be starting to meet again this month. I always enjoy seeing our members come back together, welcome new faces, and get excited about the projects and activities they have planned for the year ahead.

As our clubs begin meeting, there will be plenty of opportunities for youth to learn new skills, participate in hands-on activities, serve their communities, and build friendships along the way. Whether your interest is agriculture, STEM, wildlife, cooking, outdoor activities, leadership, or something completely different, there is a place for you in 4-H!

I also want to take a moment to thank our amazing 4-H volunteers. Our clubs would not be possible without the time, energy, and enthusiasm they give to our youth. I’m looking forward to another great year of 4-H activities and watching our members grow throughout the year.

If you have been thinking about getting involved in 4-H, now is a great time to join us! Reach out to the Alexander County 4-H office to learn more about our clubs and upcoming opportunities.

If you have any questions regarding enrollment or need help with enrollment please contact DJ Salyer at 828-632-3125.  Again, no child or volunteer can participate in 4-H events without being enrolled.


A new way to complete 4-H project records is here!
Beginning this year, North Carolina  4-H members can complete project records online through Kaleidoscope. This new option provides a more flexible, accessible way to document 4-H experiences while helping prepare youth for the digital tools they'll encounter in scholarships, college applications, internships and future careers.
During the 2026 transition year, members may choose between the new Kaleidoscope system, or the traditional document format.

National Wildlife Day – September 4

A great day to celebrate wildlife and learn about the animals that live around us. It fits perfectly with 4-H’s focus on wildlife education and conservation.

National Farmers' Day – September 12

A chance to recognize and thank farmers for the hard work they do to provide food, fiber, and other products we use every day.

National Apple Dumpling Day – September 17

A fun food-themed day that could be a great opportunity to try a new recipe or learn about apples and how they are grown.

National Pepperoni Pizza Day – September 20

Who doesn't love pizza? Use this fun day to celebrate a favorite food while learning about where some of its ingredients come from!
Alexander County 4-H Clubs
Alexander County Livestock 4-H Club  meets 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center.
The 4-H Livestock Club will begin to meet again on October 5th.  If you have an interest in livestock animals this is the perfect club for you.  They are welcoming new members.  
 
Alexander County 4-H Garden Club meets 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m.  Location:  Alexander County Service Center

Below is the schedule for the Alexander 4-H Garden Club:

September 10th - Habitats: Build a Burrow
October 8th - Leaf Mosaic or Planting Bulbs
November - NO Meeting
December - NO Meeting

Red Pony 4-H Club meets 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Red Pony Inn located at 615 Ned Herman Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.  They are accepting new members.  



Red Pony 4-H Club will meet September 15 at 7 p.m. at The Red Pony Inn.  Topic for this meeting will be how to age a horse by its teeth.  Members are encouraged to bring a photo of your horse's teeth so those attending can guess their aget.

Southern Grace 4-H Club  meets 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m.  Location:  Alexander County Service Center (They are not accepting new members at this time.)
Southern Grace 4-H Club will begin meeting again September 17th at 4:30 p.m.
 
Shockers 4-H Electric Club meets 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center   New members are welcome!
The Shockers 4-H Club will meet September 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alexander County Service Center.  This is a great club if you have an interest in electricity and science.  Please make plans to join them!
 
Whisk it Up 4-H Cooking Club meets 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Location:  Alexander County Service Center.
Tickets are on sale now for the 8th annual Pickin’ in the Pines benefit concert at Millstone 4-H Camp!

Join us on October 17 for an evening of live bluegrass music, BBQ, a silent auction and more — all while supporting an important cause. Proceeds from Pickin’ in the Pines provide scholarships that help underserved youth experience summer camp at Millstone.

Since the event began, support from sponsors and attendees has helped send more than 75 youth to camp!
