Chatham County cattle producers can borrow a Priefert S04 squeeze chute, detachable palpation cage, and wheel carriage through N.C. Cooperative Extension, Chatham County Center, at no cost. The equipment can be picked up and transported to your farm for routine cattle working, vaccinations, pregnancy checking, and other herd management needs.

This purchase was made possible through the NC AgVentures Community Grant Program, funded by the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, helping Extension provide valuable resources to local agricultural producers.

Borrowers are responsible for safe transportation, proper use, and returning the equipment clean. Pick-up and return must be scheduled in advance with the Extension office.

Interested in reserving the equipment?

Contact Dalton Suits at N.C. Cooperative Extension in Chatham County at (919) 542-8242 to check availability and reserve equipment.

Livestock Opportunities?

Youth & Adult Volunteers Needed!

Youth Livestock - Call for Interest (1).png

Chatham County Center is launching a Call for Interest to explore expanding youth livestock opportunities in our community! Whether your child is passionate about animals, interested in competitive team events, or simply eager to learn about agriculture, we want to hear from you.

We are currently gathering feedback from Chatham County families to gauge community interest and determine our next steps. Your input helps us measure community interest so we can evaluate potential next steps, which will depend on interest levels and adult volunteer support.

4-H Youth Chicken Project

Youth Poultry Show 2027 (1).jpg

Your family doesn’t need a farm, a flock, or any experience with chickens to take part in the 2027 North Central District 4-H Poultry Show. Youth start with five baby chicks and learn as they go, and our Cooperative Extension staff is with them the whole way, answering questions and helping with everything from setting up a brooder to getting ready for show day. If your child has ever wanted to raise an animal of their own, this is a great place to start.
