Believe it or not, the holidays are almost upon us! Tomorrow night, December 3, 2021, join in on the fun at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center. The night begins with Reindeer Games at 5:30 p.m.; the annual tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.; and culminates with the main event, Currituck’s Annual Holiday Parade at 7 p.m. Come out early, and play holiday-themed games, view the County Tree Lighting, and enjoy some cookies and hot cocoa. Bring a chair or blanket so you can have a comfortable spot to view the Holiday parade hosted by the Currituck County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #89.

Invasive Insect

Be on the lookout! An established population of spotted lanternflies was detected in Carrol Co. Virginia, just north of Surry County, NC Spotted lanternflies (SLF) are a new invasive species, first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014. Since then, they have spread to 11 states and have been detected in numerous others, including here in Currituck County. These invasive insects pose a serious threat to vineyards and orchards and produce honeydew, which leads to black sooty mold that coats anything under the bugs

4-H Electric Workshop

Currituck County 4-H is hosting a workshop on December 22, 2021, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for youth ages 11 to 18. This series of energy science and engineering design activities and experiments provide youth exciting opportunities to explore electrical circuits, power systems, sensors, coding, and alternative energy. These activities invite youth to create and explore many different science and engineering concepts while designing and building their own “powered neighborhood.”
