Virtual Events During National 4-H Week

The Anson Youth Leadership Forum was held on October 4th during National  4-H Week.  The panelists were Jarvis Woodburn,
Chairperson of the Anson County Board of Commissioners and Ray Allen, Interim County Manager.  Youth participants representing HOLLA!, The Angela Caraway Foundation, and Anson County 4-H were able ask questions and get feedback from their local government officials.  On October 7th, Studio 256 Karate Mati Club hosted an interactive karate workshop.  Owner and karate instructor Derrick Edwards and his son Garrett Edwards (also an instructor) gave tips on staying active and healthy.  The father-son duo also gave several technique and demonstrations – with one demonstration ending in a flip! The Youth Leadership Forum and the 256 Karate Mati Club Karate Workshop were recorded and are available for viewing on the NC Cooperative Extension - Anson County YouTube channel.

Anson Extension and the Interesting People We Meet

After a quick glance at the picture on the right, you may wonder how rocks made it into the final 4-H newsletter of 2021.  However, a closer look should reveal that these are no ordinary rocks.  In fact, a minerals prospector would explain that these rocks are embedded with gold and silver!  According to a local prospector who recently visited the Anson Extension office, there is silver and gold in Anson and surrounding counties.  The prospector further stated that "Precious metals; gold, silver, platinum, iron, copper, and other metals were determined to be present by scientific lab testing done with x-rays and fire assays." There is always more to Anson than meets the eye!
