The Benefits of Meadows
Meadows are one garden trend that buck the traditional template of a neat lawn dotted with beds of flowers. These gardens, which are becoming increasingly popular, are areas that combine both horticulture and ecology. The end result is a garden that is more naturalistic, filled with native plants that are diverse both in plant species and the animal populations they bring in.

Buttercup Control in Pastures

Have you seen your pastures filled with pretty little yellow flowers in early spring of recent years? The white squirrel phenomena in western North Carolina is a popular topic of conversation among locals and an attraction for tourists. Local shops sell souvenirs based on the animal. Tourists prize a personal photo of the critter most of all.   So what is the story on our local white squirrels? Are they albinos? Did they escape a circus or a lab?

Annual 4-H Spring Plant Sale

Each spring, Henderson County 4-H sells bare root, fruit producing plants as a fundraiser for our local youth 4-H programs, Clubs, Volunteers and awards. All plants are pre-order and are great prices for quality nursery plants!

Leaves Are Valuable – Don’t Throw Them Away!

Leaves are good! Leaves are nature’s mulch, fertilizer and compost all rolled into one package. Let’s not throw away such a valuable resource.

Know Before You Throw!
It is a new year, and now time to dismantle after the holidays. But before you toss that greenery into your compost pile, there’s cause for hesitation. A common evergreen used in many of our Christmas wreaths and swags could be harboring a pathogen every bit as destructive to the plant world as COVID has been to humans.
