Agriculture
Soybean & Corn Production Meetings
To assist farmers prepare for the upcoming growing season, Corn and Soybean Production meetings were held in January. Guest speakers at these local events included Dr. Ron Heiniger (NC State Extension Corn Specialist), Dr. Rachel Vann (NC State Extension Soybean Specialist), and Dr. Luke Gatiboni (NC State Extension Soil Fertility Specialist). Topics discussed in the soybean meeting included rising fertilizer prices, nutrient management to reduce costs, planting date by maturity group selection, and the use of crop protectants. We focused on starter fertilizers, biological products, plant population, and a new planting data support tool during the corn meeting.
4-H Youth Development
Family Game Night
Ten students and their parents participated in Family Game Night playing board games at the Camden County Library. This event helped to reinforce the value of spending time together as a family.
Family & Consumer Sciences
Make-Ahead Meals
Make-ahead meals class will be held on February 28th from 5:30 to 7:30 at the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Camden Center (located at 120 NC Highway 343 N, Camden, NC). We will learn the valuable skills of batch cooking, freezing, and preparing meals ahead. We will also explore menu planning to help ease the stress of making dinner on those busy weeknights. New Year's Fitness Challenge
New Year’s Fitness Challenge is a great success with 18 active participants reporting and viewing the live fitness classes. This challenge is virtual and will end on February 20th.  January’s Live Food Demo reached 104 viewers through various social media platforms. Last month we demonstrated a Spicy Peanut Soup.
