Wildfire Mitigation Cost-Share Program
Mountain Valley Resource Conservation & Development Council’s Mitigation Cost-Share Assistance Program offers 50% reimbursement for residents within an 8-county region (includes McDowell) to hire out a contractor or rent equipment to reduce their home’s risk of ignition from wildfire.

Backyard Composting Basics Online Composting is harnessing the power of nature to recycle your organic waste at home. More than 25% of the typical home’s waste is yard trimmings and food scraps. Imagine cutting down the amount of trash you take to the dump by 25%.
The N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center’s Keep McDowell Beautiful program will be partnering with the Marion East Community Forum on March 19 to host a community-wide clean-up day. We will provide trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and training to volunteers.
