The NC 4-H Horse Program Rules and Regulations Manual has been updated and reflects all the new rules and updates for the 2022 season. If you plan to show or enter any
educational contests, please be sure to review all the rules for your particular division or contest. Rule changes and additions are highlighted yellow for your convenience.
The eligibility card procedure will be the same as in 2019-2021. Please consult your local N.C. Cooperative Extension agent to be sure that you are meeting all the requirements in order to receive your card.
There is not a specific deadline for the completion of the request form. However, youth need to be sure to have all paperwork (including eligibility cards) completed in time to meet entry deadlines for their selected qualifying show.

State 4-H Horse Show 2022 | July 6th - 10th
|
|
|
The NC 4-H State Horse Show will be held July 6-10, 2022, at the James B. Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh. NEW for 2022 is an exhibitor sponsorship incentive! 4-H’ers that submit completed and paid sponsorships with their State Show Entry form will receive 20% of the sponsorship fees collected off of their total show bill. For example, if a 4-H’er turns in $1000 in sponsorships with their entry form, they can deduct $200 off their show fees
owed.

Horse Show sponsorships span a wide variety of levels. Division, Reserve Champion, and Major Show Sponsors include their choice of an advertisement in the show program or indoor vendor space. If you are interested in being a Sponsor, please check out our attached letter and packet.

Southern Regionals 2022: August 3rd - 7th
|
|
|
Attention to those aspiring to attend the 2022 Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships: We have just received confirmation that Southern Regionals will be held a week LATER than usual this year, dates 8/3-8/7. This change in date could impact the overall show schedule, so stay tuned for updates on those changes! We will keep you informed as details are made.

2022 State Hippology Contest: March 12 at NCSU
|
|
|
|
The purpose of the Hippology Contest is to provide participants with the opportunity to blend knowledge and skills acquired in horse judging, bowl, demonstrations, public speaking, and showing into one activity.
|
|
|
|
|
Additionally, the Hippology Contest will encourage participants to continue expanding their horse knowledge and participation, recognize participants for their total involvement in the horse industry and their comprehensive knowledge of the horse industry and teach good sportsmanship through a friendly and competitive environment.
Any 4-H member is eligible to participate in the 4-H Hippology Contest. Participants do not need to own a horse. Each county is eligible to enter any number of Junior or Senior teams of four members in the state contest. The total individual scores for the three high team members will constitute the team score and be used in determining team awards. Individual entries will be accepted. All participants in the contest will be eligible for individual awards or recognition.

NC Educational Contest Sponsorship Opportunities

|
There are six different Horse Educational Events that
are offered through our program for cloverbuds, juniors, and seniors.
Sponsorship levels are numerous and help provide awards for the contest participants, travel expenses for national team travel, and also cover the cost of hosting and managing the events.

Virtual Hippology Academy
|
|
|
|
This short, online, course is designed for youth, adults, leaders, and extension personnel to gain knowledge and practice on horse hippology content.
Content includes practice tests, slides, and digital stations in six areas in addition to twice weekly lectures.
This bronze level course includes core features like access to 12 lectures from university professors on anatomy, health, diseases, parasitology, toxic plants, nutrition, and more.
Cost: $50 Start Date: February 7th, 2022

NC 4-H Horse Program Achievement Award
|
|
|
The NC 4-H Horse Program Achievement Award is an annual application/submission of accomplishments within 4-H, with a specific focus on horse program achievements that is cumulative beginning with the applicant’s first year in the horse program. Award levels are on a points-based system that groups like activities completed based on the level of involvement and ranks them. There are 4 levels of accomplishment that youth can apply to earn annually. Youth can potentially earn more than level (especially the first year they apply).
Who can apply?
- Any 4-H’er who participates in the 4-H horse program, age 8 and older.
- No minimum requirement for years of participation.
- 4-H’ers who have aged out can submit an application the year immediately following their age-out year.

2022 Horsemanship Camp | Ellerbe, NC
|
|
|
|
Dates: June 12 to June 17
Improve your horsemanship skills while having fun with other 4-H’ers. Highly qualified camp staff will introduce the beginning rider to the basics of horsemanship while advanced riders can learn new and better horsemanship skills and showing techniques.
Special features of the camp include educational lectures, riding lessons, showmanship, judging contests, trail rides, and training demonstrations. Instruction will be given in hunt seat, western and gaming styles, with additional instruction in dressage,
non-trotting, or eventing if enough interest exists. Campers must supply his/her own horse, equipment, feed, and transportation. The camp will provide sawdust for the stalls.

Winter Horse Management Series | Franklin County
|
|
|
A free horse educational series will begin with our first in-person meeting on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be conducted in the Extension Center Annex meeting room in Louisburg, beginning at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served first followed by the program. There is no fee for the meals, but a donation will be accepted. Martha Mobley, Agricultural Extension Agent, will be presenting on “Getting Back to the Basics in Horse Pasture Establishment and Management.”

Farm Credit | AgYouth Leadership Program
|
|
|
The Farm Credit Associations of NC’s AgYouth Leadership Program will honor students who excel in the classroom and community as leaders in their FFA chapters and 4-H clubs. The goals of this award is to:
- To raise the profile of FFA and 4-H by recognizing outstanding junior and senior leaders.
- To recognize these winners in various association publications, social media, and Farm Credit Associations of NC websites.
- To create scholarship opportunities that will help graduating seniors.
