Our office is collecting canned foods, but not just any canned foods. Our goal is to provide ingredients that families will be able to use to prepare a complete meal. We are asking, if you are able, to donate one of EACH of the following ingredients. The meal ingredients will be bagged and delivered to families in need.
NC A&T State University’s 36th annual Small Farms week celebration runs from March 21 to 26. Events will be held virtually, and satellite sites will hold “watch parties” to allow people across North Carolina to participate.

Assistance Available for Farmers in McDowell
Assistance available for farmers in McDowell due to TS Fred. The program will cover losses of crops, feed, livestock, aquaculture, and farm infrastructure. The agricultural commodities must have been planted but not harvested, or for aquaculture commodities raised on or before August 17, 2021.
The Master Gardeners of McDowell County have been working hard organizing Good Earth Gardening: A Garden Symposium. Good Earth Gardening will be Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McDowell Senior Center, 100 Spaulding Road, Marion. McDowell County 4-H Lamb Project Is your child interested in doing a 4-H livestock project? The McDowell County 4-H Lamb Project provide youth with an opportunity to care for and show a lamb at no cost. Participants will receive a loaner lamb to care for, train and show at the McDowell County Jr Livestock Show in August.
N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center’s Keep McDowell Beautiful program will be partnering with Camp Grier, Old Fort Ride House, Kitsbow, and Hillman Brewing to remove trash in Old Fort on April 16. Come out & support this clean-up effort!
March is National Nutrition Month, but it wasn’t always recognized all month. It started as National Nutrition Week in March of 1973. By 1980, it had become so popular that the House of Delegates decided to make the month of March, National Nutrition Month. How are some ways you can observe this?
Health is a lot more than how one looks and feels. Conversations about health should include all eight dimensions or areas of wellness—that is mental, social, emotional, spiritual, financial, occupational, environmental, and intellectual.
