CAMDEN EXTENSION CONNECTIONS
APRIL 2021 RECAP

In 2020 covid-19 presented many hurdles and changes to daily life but something that did not change was Extension staff’s service to the people of Camden County in the areas of agriculture, 4-H youth development, and family & consumer sciences.  Below find our 2020 Annual Report To The People Video.  We look forward to continuing to support and serve Camden County and its citizens.
Agriculture
On-Farm Crop Diagnostic Support
A key way that Austin assists Camden County farmers is through on-farm crop diagnostic support, which picks up in the spring and summer months. This includes the identification of insects, crop disease, weeds, and other agronomic issues. In April Austin made a number a farm visits to wheat fields to identify problems and offer recommendations based on unbiased, research based information. Austin serves in this capacity throughout the year and is available to assist with any and all crop issues to promote the profitability and sustainability of Camden County farms.
4-H Youth Development
Marcia Berry is our 4-H Program Assistant & JCPC Program Coordinator.  She works with youth in a group called FOCUS (Fostering Originality Character Understanding and Success).  FOCUS is part of the JCPC program that teaches students social skills such as conflict resolution, coping skills, goal setting and other life skills which will help students build leadership skills and have positive interactions with others.

Family & Consumer Sciences
Med Instead of Meds
April has been a successful and busy month for the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. The Med Instead of Meds 6-week course on how to eat the "Med Way" wrapped up with a total of 37 participants. Participants are still able to view the recorded content at their leisure. Forty recipes along with giveaways were delivered to the Camden County Center for Active Adults. Prior to COVID-19 the Family and Consumer Sciences Department provided food demonstrations once a month for the seniors. We hope to return to providing this service in 2022.
