Yancey County 4-H Activity Day

4-H Presentations are one of the most long lasting, impactful 4-H activities for youth. Presentations teach youth public speaking skills, organization, responsibility, and so many more skills youth will use for the rest of their lives! 4-H Presentations are a fun event where youth can share skills, knowledge, and excitement about their 4-H project or anything they are interested in. Public speaking is one of the TOP skills that 4-H alumni say they have learned through the 4-H program that they have used in their college and adult life. We encourage ALL AGES to do a 4-H Presentation and encourage our younger 4-Hers to start doing them early.

We will be holding a second 4-H Presentation workshop on Wednesday, May 11th from 2-5pm. During this drop-in workshop, 4-H'ers can get help in creating their presentation and receive feedback before our county activity day! Our 2022 Yancey County 4-H Activity Day will take place on Monday, May 16th from 3-7pm. Youth can sign up for a time slot to present.

Seeking Club Leaders!

Yancey County 4-H is seeking adult leaders for the following clubs: Robotics/STEM and Gardening. The only requirements for serving in this role is a passion for helping youth and an interest in the specific club focus! 4-H volunteers must enroll in 4-H Online, participate in required trainings and pass a background check. If you or someone you know would be interested in serving in this role, please contact Jordan! Club leaders generally have a time commitment of 5-10 hours per month with flexibility to determine club meeting dates and times. 4-H club leaders help positively shape the lives of youth in Yancey County, to have a long lasting impact on youth and our community!
Outdoor Adventures Club Community Service Day

We are excited to announce an upcoming field trip for our Outdoor Adventures Club. The club will be completing their community service project at Mount Mitchell State Park on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00am-1:30pm. They will meet at the Extension Office at 9:00am sharp and leave in the county van from there. They will return to the Extension Office around 1:30pm. Parents are welcome to attend also, but will need to drive separately.

For the project, youth will receive a short presentation from one of the Park Rangers about the park ecosystem, then they will complete a bioassessment of the plants and animals found at the park. This will consist of youth going on a little hike, taking pictures of plants, insects, fungi, and animals to document these organisms, and give this information to park staff. During the trip, youth will also have the opportunity to earn their Junior Ranger Badge!

Club members must RSVP at the link below to attend the field trip!
