Food Preservation Series

Taking the time to plan, plant, and tend to a garden can be very fun and relaxing. But what do you do when it comes time to harvest and you are up to your eyeballs in produce? Sign up for N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center’s Home Food Preservation Series, and learn to can all the produce you harvest. Join us from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. for a hands-on food preservation experience. Pickling will be offered on May 18th and Salsa on June 15th. Each class requires a $15.00 registration fee which includes canning goodies and recipes.

Agritourism Opportunities

When you want to find good music, cheap gas, or connect with friends nearby you look to the apps on your phone. But what if you are looking for pick-your-own strawberries, a vineyard tour, or a farm venue for your event? Well, there is now an app for that too!

The Visit NC Farms Phone App was developed by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to connect North Carolina residents and visitors to farmers and local food – and thanks to the efforts of Currituck Extension and Currituck Travel and Tourism, it is live in Currituck County!

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed on June 17th to extend some Currituck hospitality and ensure a successful experience for area youth. There are a variety of roles available from monitoring rooms, to help with scoring, to serving as an emcee for the 4-H entertains portion of the day. Most volunteers will be needed from 8 a.m. until about 3 p.m. To let us know you are available, sign up at go.ncsu.edu/currituck4heventvols. What exactly is this event? Currituck County 4-H is hosting the NC 4-H Northeast District Public Speaking Competition on June 17, 2022.
