June's Round-up
Alexander 4-H Summer Opportunities began with Beginning Sewing 4-H Camp.  Campers learned the basics of sewing while completing a few projects to take home.  They made pen cushions the first day that resembled cupcakes.  Then using the hand sewing skills they were learning they completed an owl pillow.  Last they put their sewing machines skills to use to complete a bag.  Thank you to the volunteers that helped pull this week off!!

Mad Scientist 4-H Camp was full of exciting blasts.  The kids had a great time experimenting with science.  They made lava lamps, created a walking rainbow, made their own solar ovens, brustlebots and experienced science experiments galore.  Below are pictures from the week.
Snack Attack 4-H Camp was full of scrumptious snacks that went along with books or movies the kids watched.  For example the book "Cook-A-Doodle-Doo" was about Big Brown Rooster who was tired of eating chicken feed.  He along with his friends set out to make the best strawberry shortcake ever.  They only had one problem...no one knew how to cook.  Campers used the book to create the same strawberry shortcake the animals made.  Many other recipes were created such as: walking tacos, chocolate chip zucchini muffins, spaghetti, doughnuts and more.

NCA&T released a youth nutrition program in 2018 that sent blender bikes out into the counties for agents to use in programming.  The blender bike was used with this group to make delicious smoothies.  Check out the photos below to see how much fun everyone had

The last week of June camps was Discovery Day Camp.   Campers visited a different county each day.  The first day they visited the Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC.  Second day they went to Burke County to the Waldensian Trail of Faith and Bigfoot Climbing Gym.  Third day to Catawba County to Riverbend Creamery and took in a Hickory Crawdads game.  The last day Alexander County hosted and visited Emerald Hollow Gem Mine and Statesville Leisure Pool.  The kids enjoyed making new friends and discovering other counties all at the same time.  Below are pictures from the week:
