Special Update

N.C. Cooperative Extension in Currituck is proud and yet somewhat saddened to announce that Extension Administrative Assistant, Sherry Lynn has been promoted to the position of Northeast District Extension Administrative Associate. In this role, she will provide administrative support to the 22 county Extension centers located throughout Northeast North Carolina.

July Highlights

July brought the full heat of the summer and NC Cooperative Extension in Currituck was on fire with programs and activities. Here is your (slightly longer than) 60 second run down for the month. Included are overall numbers as well as highlights and images from 4-H, Agriculture, and Family and Consumer Sciences programs.

Fermentation Series

If you enjoy the science of fermentation, then join us for a series of fermentation classes! Each class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Currituck Extension Office. The fee for each class is $15.00.

September 7th - Sauerkraut
September 21st - Sourdough
October 12th - Ginger Beer
October 26th - Kombucha

Houseplants that Purify the Air

Want to learn how to improve your indoor air quality while reducing stress and fatigue? If so, join us at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center, located at 120 Community Way, in Barco on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for this free houseplant workshop.

Currituck Master Gardener, Jodi Lockhart will cover several varieties of houseplants that can remove harmful toxins from the air. Attendees will learn how to identify, select, and care for indoor plants correctly. All participants will receive at least one free plant and detailed instructions for its care.

4-H Poultry Show

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center is hosting a 4-H Domestic Poultry Show on October 1, 2022 in conjunction with the Currituck Farm Festival. The show is open to youth ages 5 – 18. Youth are invited to show chickens they own. There will not be any specific breed classes, but we will have 3 different divisions: Standard Laying hens, Bantam hens, and Roosters. Youth can show 1 bird in each division. There will be a registration fee of $5.00 per participant.
