Master Gardeners
Daylilies
The genus, Hemerocallis, comes from the Greek for ‘beauty’ and ‘day’ as each flower lasts only one day. Daylilies originated in Asia and were grown for food and medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Plants were brought to Europe in the 16thcentury and spread like wildfire. Hybridizers really became industrious in the 1930’s with tens of thousands of named cultivars available today.

4-H & Youth Development
Children Learning about Gardening | Update
Students in Hayesville's Discovery after school program have been hard at work learning about gardening. Most recently, 4-H Agent, Julie Lyvers, teamed up with local volunteers to build 3 raised beds that the students have planted their crops in.
Summer Fun With Water
While attending 4-H camp this summer, students from Clay County were able to learn about water safety while having fun! Being around the lake whether it was swimming or canoeing, the campers practiced water safety by wearing life jackets. Even though most of the campers were great swimmers, all of them wore life jackets to be safe in the lake.

The members of the Trails and Rails 4-H Horse Club were able to participate in the 2022 West District 4-H Horsemanship Clinic in Fletcher, NC.

In fact, wildlife watching as a whole, given impetus by the increased awareness of regional and ecological diversity, has become one of this country’s fastest-growing outdoor recreational activities.
