Asian Giant Hornet ID Guide

A Side by Side Comparison of the Asian Giant Hornet and Other Insects

The following are some insects that might be confused for the Asian Giant Hornet (also referred to in the media as the “Murder Hornet”) which is not in North Carolina at this time. County 4-Her’s Participate in NC 4-H Congress & State Presentations
4-H Presentations are a huge part of North Carolina 4-H. It is one of the most successful ways to help a young person learn how to do a public speech. It focuses on members teaching others what they know about a particular project/subject matter. They are sometimes called demonstrations or illustrated talk or formal speech.

First youth must compete or present in their home 4-H county to move onto the district competition. The district competition (District Activity Day, DAD) brings youth ages 5-18 from across the district to compete against each other through a prepared topic presentation or demonstration. Gold(1st) and Silver(2nd) place  winners at DAD in the age groups 8-18, Junior and Senior, in all categories move onto the state 4-H presentation competition held each year at State 4-H Presentation Finals/4-H Congress. Cherokee County 4-H had two gold winners at DAD, Trinity Weitz, in the Junior 11-13 Foods and Nutrition category, and Jayson Weitz, in the Senior 14-18, Science and Technology category.

Could You Be the First NC Ag Star?

Paige King Johnson is a singer-songwriter originally from Angier, NC now traveling back and forth from Nashville, TN. She was recently named the first musical ambassador for the NC Department of Agriculture’s Got to Be NC program. There are a lot of different projects in the works with this partnership, but the main one is the upcoming NC Ag Star Homegrown Voice Talent Search in September & November of this year. As a Harnett County 4-H alum, Paige was involved in both the livestock programs and the arts programs, she is now reaching out to hopefully connect with some of our 4-H kids that may potentially be interested in this opportunity.
