The countdown to the NC Mountain State Fair has begun. The backbone of any fair are the exhibits. It’s the main reason I attend the fair to see all the horticulture, floriculture, honey, agronomic crops, photography, arts, crafts…the list goes on. All these exhibits are entered by people like you and me, young and old.
In McDowell County, we have a wealth of talented gardeners, honey producers, food preservationist, crafters, and photographers. Please consider making a fair entry.

Healthy Snacks for Back to School
As summer starts to wind down, it’s time to start thinking about back to school and all that goes with it. It seems like the kids are always hungry as soon as they come home from school. If you meal prep, don’t forget to add in the snacks for each day.

We are excited to announce that Spencer’s Ace Hardware in Marion has generously donated a cooler to raffle off at the 76th Annual McDowell County Junior Livestock Show on August 5 and 6. All proceeds will go to the Dottie Brackett Memorial College Scholarship Fund. Learn more>>
McDowell 4-Hers Attend Camp
During the week of June 26, ten McDowell County 4-Hers traveled to Betsy Jeff Penn 4-H Center in Reidsville. They spent the week canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, hiking and so much more.
In July, McDowell 4-H hosted our first ever “Surviving in the Real World: 4-H Life Skills Camp.” Participants learned real life skills during a week filled with activities.
NC State University and N.C. A&T State University work in tandem, along with federal, state and local
governments, to form a strategic partnership called N.C. Cooperative Extension.
