2022 Wheat Trials Results
Extension professionals from the N.C. Cooperative Extension Centers in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties collaborate annually to implement and harvest variety demonstration trials with cooperating farmers. As a result we generate unbiased information that we share to assist farmers with variety selection.

The results from our 2022 NE AG Expo Wheat Variety Trials can be downloaded from the Camden County Website (https://camden.ces.ncsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20220809093151390.pdf?fwd=no). It’s important to note at the Currituck location that deer damage was observed on 4 varieties: AgriPro GP 348, Syngenta SY Viper, Pioneer 26R59, & Pioneer 26R45.

4-H Youth Development

Teen Court
Two Teen Court presentations were shared at the Camden County Early College giving 45 students the opportunity to join Teen Court as volunteers. As a result more than new 10 youth will be volunteering. Participants in Teen Court will serve in various roles in court hearings, earn community service hours and learn valuable life skills that they can put on job applications and college resumes.

Family & Consumer Sciences

Power out Meals at the Senior Center
With hurricane season upon us the Family and Consumer Sciences Department took a power-out meals demonstration to the senior center. Eleven participants learned what you can keep and what you should toss after the power has been out, as well as what you can make with no power. Additionally, they learned how to stock their pantry for any upcoming storms.

In-Person Food Preservation Series
Our fifth and final in-person Food Preservation class was held on August 24th. Six participants explored the science behind dehydrating food. Then participants learned the correct methods for dehydration and the equipment needed. Next, they demonstrated their skills by dehydrating fruit leathers and apple rings.
