September 2022
Currituck Farm Festival

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 1st from 12:00 – 4:00 for the second annual Currituck Farm Festival, a celebration of our agriculture heritage. This event will be held at the Currituck County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension at 120 Community Way in Barco, NC from 12-4pm.

This event was so much fun last year, we’ve decided to expand and offer more activities, contests, and fun for the whole family! The celebration will begin with a tribute to our Currituck farm families and the annual tractor parade. Enjoy food trucks, a vendor fair, live music, tons of educational information about our farming roots and much, much more!

Meal Prep for College Kids

It is that time of year when our children are transitioning to adulthood and leaving the nest. Heading off to college can be a stressful enough time for students. With a little education and some discipline, college weight gain and food budgeting doesn’t have to be part of that stress.

Establishing a Wildflower Bed

Habitat loss is the number one factor leading to decreased pollinator populations. As we build more homes, schools, and businesses here in Currituck, we have a responsibility to protect our pollinators. One way to do this is by establishing wildflower beds. Wildflower beds can be small, but offer habitat to pollinators.

Join us at N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center, located at 120 Community Way in Barco on October 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon for our Establishing a Wildflower Bed class.

Currituck 4-H Sharp Shooter

Currituck County 4-H Sharpshooter team member Kilynn Brinkley was a member of the 4 person, NC 4-H Air Pistol Team that finished third overall at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 26 – July 1, 2022.

The 2022 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships consist of competitive tournaments in compound archery, recurve archery, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading, and hunting skills.
