Community Partner Spotlight

This month's spotlight goes to Open Door Ministries (ODM)!

Open Door Ministries is a nonprofit organization founded in 1968 that uses a faith-based approach and is dedicated to helping people regain their lives through supportive services and emergency assistance. ODM's programs and services are solution-oriented, and ministry minded, including the operation of a homeless shelter, serving daily meals, distributing non-perishable and fresh food, obtaining permanent housing, providing transitional housing for our nation's veterans, providing emergency assistance, and acquiring and maintaining permanent jobs.

Below is an overview of Open Door Ministries' six main programs:

1. Emergency Food Assistance (Food Pantry) — The Emergency Food Assistance Program provides individuals and families with a generous supply of food including meat, fresh vegetables, and nonperishable items. The food box contains five days’ worth of food, and each family or individual can receive a box once per month. Hygiene products are provided through the Food Pantry when available.

2. Father's Table (Soup Kitchen) —  Over 10,000 hot, nutritious, homecooked meals are donated, prepared, and served by local churches, organizations, businesses, and community volunteers per month. ODM currently serves three meals a day, five days a week, and breakfast and dinner on weekends, to the homeless and less fortunate in High Point. There are no stipulations as to who is served as ODM truly offers an “open door” to those who are hungry.

3. Emergency Financial Assistance — The Emergency Financial Assistance Program assists families experiencing unexpected occurrences that affect their ability to pay utilities and rent.

4. Men's Shelter — The Men’s Shelter program is designed to house adult men on a temporary basis. The shelter offers 42 beds for homeless, adult males. In addition to providing a safe, warm place to sleep, the Shelter also helps clients attain proper identification, such as picture IDs and social security cards, so that the men can begin to rebuild their lives. Bus tickets are also provided so the men can take care of medical problems and look for work. Case management identifies the individual needs of each client such as finding a job, addressing mental health and medical conditions, and locating housing.

5. Arthur Cassell Transitional Housing — The Arthur Cassell Transitional Housing program (ACTH) is a residential facility for 24 veterans experiencing homelessness. The Program opened in 2000 and partners with the WG “Bill” Hefner Medical Center and Veteran’s Administration (VA). All veterans are referred by the VA. The ACTH provides 24/7 care for those with chronic physical or mental disabilities, and is considered a lifeline for our nation's heroes who are struggling with homelessness.

6. Human Trafficking Resource Center — The Human Trafficking Resource Center offers support to those who have been trafficked in the Triad, covering both labor and sex trafficking.

Xuan (Dynasty) Rui, Marketing, Event, and Fundraising Manager at Open Door Ministries, says, "Open Door Ministries has three food programs: the Father’s Table Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, and the kitchen at Arthur Cassell Memorial House for Veterans. Each of these programs meets our neighbors where they need it most, whether through hot meals or groceries. In 2025, we provided more than 330,000 meals to the community—a record year! However, our work goes beyond meeting immediate needs. Providing food does more than fill hungry bellies; it empowers families in crisis by freeing up financial capacity to handle emergencies, so individuals no longer have to make the difficult choice between addressing an emergency or eating. Our vision is to make homelessness and hunger in our community brief and non-reoccurring by walking alongside our neighbors, providing food, housing, healing, and hope." Thank you, Dynasty!

There are a few ways to get involved with Open Door Ministries!

1.) Volunteer! Volunteers are vital to Open Door Ministries’ success, providing critical support to the mission and staff.

2.) Donate money, food, or clothes! Your generosity helps Open Door Ministries sustain programs that directly address food insecurity, homelessness, and more in our community.
