Agriculture Agent, Marcus Williams; Outreach Specialist, Sonni Dudley; and Food Security Program Assistant, Melodie Melbouci, presented their poster at the National Urban Extension Leaders Conference, “HarvestConnect: A Model for Strengthening Farmer-Restaurant Collaboration,” in early May to promote the collaboration of farmers, horticulture agents, and digital skills agents to strengthen local food networks between restaurants and local producers.

Guilford County 4-H’s Butterfly Life Cycles program engaged 638 youth across 31 classrooms, offering a hands-on, science-based learning experience focused on the metamorphosis of butterflies.

What to Know About Soil Testing
Testing Services for Nutrients and pH is provided by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Soils Lab for free to North Carolina residents except during peak season (December 1- March 31) when there is a $4 fee. Soil test boxes are available at the Ag Center. Please mail your soil test boxes to the testing lab in Raleigh using the address listed on the form. Learn More

Come and see the entries of Guilford County’s Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers showing off their gardening knowledge and work in practice. From 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., vote for your favorite entry. While awaiting the determination of the judges, from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. enjoy a free gardening presentation, “Culinary Herbs” or take a tour of our on-site Demonstration Garden (weather dependent).

Med instead Meds - Recipe of the Month

This salsa is easy and quick and goes great on fish tacos, grilled fish, or with beans and rice.  The Med Way includes plenty of healthy and nutritious meals that are also delicious and satisfying. We teach Eating the Med Way through the Family & Consumer Sciences Program.

The Mixed Greens Community Garden is proudly marking its 25th anniversary! Over the years, it has become a thriving hub for growing fresh produce, forging connections with fellow gardeners, and nurturing a vibrant sense of community in Guilford County.


Find Mixed Greens at the Celebrate Pollinators Day Event on June 14th at the Ag Center to take a tour of the Mixed Greens Community Garden, enjoy some light refreshments, and learn more about our community!

The 2025 Extension Master Gardener℠ Passalong Plant Sale was a success! About 500 members of the community attended the event to fulfill their plant needs. Any remaining plants from the plant sale will be for sale at the Celebrate Pollinators Day event on June 14th at the Ag Center!

Grower's Certificate  


Grower’s Certificates are for agricultural products that are grown/raised/produced in Guilford County, North Carolina Certificates expire on December 31st, 2025. Grower’s Certificates are maintained by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Guilford County Center to certify producers who are selling agricultural products grown in Guilford County. Local farmer’s markets or other sellers may ask for a Grower’s Certificate to show that your products are from Guilford County. They can also serve as a marketing piece for your local foods!

Microgreens: Windowsill Gardening

June 17th

Not a gardener? No worries! Microgreens are a great small-scale, low commitment step to getting started growing regardless of the season or weather since they can be grown indoors and they take up very little space!


What are Microgreens? They are flavorful, nutrition-dense, young seedlings of vegetables or herbs that you can typically harvest within only 1-3 weeks of sowing the seeds! They make great additions to salads, sandwiches, and elevate any dish when used as a garnish. Join us to learn how to start your own microgreen trays by reusing materials that you likely already have around the house.

In this session, we'll cover what it means to eat mindfully which essentially means being attentive and aware of what you're eating and how affects your body. We'll ask questions such as "How does food make you feel?" or "What type of nutrients will this provide?"

· Free breakfast and lunch available to anyone under the age of 18 during the summer months

            Lunch: 11:00 am — 12:00 pm
