FCS Agent, Mara Amador, and FCS Support Associate, Alona Thomas, collaborated with our 4-H agents, Meredith Kreeger and Lauren Taubert, for our Real Money, Real World program at Southeast Middle School.

Our team helped 90 students go through their real-life spending simulation where students manage a budget based on an assigned career, making decisions on expenses, such as housing, transportation, childcare, and groceries.

What to Know About Soil Testing
Testing Services for Nutrients and pH is provided by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Soils Lab for free to North Carolina residents except during peak season (December 1- March 31) when there is a $4 fee. Soil test boxes are available at the Ag Center. Please mail your soil test boxes to the testing lab in Raleigh using the address listed on the form. Learn More

Passalong Plant Sale

The Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Guilford County are holding their annual Passalong Plant Sale on May 2 and 3 at the Agricultural Center this year!


Enjoy an array of perennials, natives, pollinator plants, shrubs, trees, and houseplants. Also available will be garden décor and slightly used items such as bird houses and garden signs.

Don’t know much about gardening? Ask our Extension Master Gardener volunteers for advice and tips while you’re there!

Don’t forget to snap a photo with Polly Nater, our friendly pollinator mascot, and check out the car show happening on the property in partnership with Celebrate Pollinators Day.

Start spreading the word and let’s create some buzz about this year’s celebration!

EMG Garden Show

July 19th, 2025

10 AM - 12:30 PM at the Ag Center


Join us in the Demonstration Garden at the NC Cooperative Extension-Guilford County Center for a day full of fun and learning for the whole family! Pollinators are the unsung sheroes and heroes of our gardens, and this event will celebrate and raise awareness about their vital role. Explore a variety of informative table displays, create your own bee hotel, and pick up a goody bag (while supplies last). There will also be a few vendors on sight and a fire truck and police cruiser for the kids (at scheduled times only).  Don’t forget to snap a photo with Polly Nater, our friendly pollinator mascot, and check out the car show happening on the property in partnership with Celebrate Pollinators Day.

Med instead Meds - Recipe of the Month

This salsa is easy and quick and goes great on fish tacos, grilled fish, or with beans and rice.  The Med Way includes plenty of healthy and nutritious meals that are also delicious and satisfying. We teach Eating the Med Way through the Family & Consumer Sciences Program.

Has your Guilford County neighborhood, place of worship, or other citizens group thought about starting a community garden next spring? Consider applying for a Community Garden Start-Up Grant!

Chainsaw Workshop

April 4th, 2025


9 AM - 12:30 PM at the Ag Center


Join Nathan Gatlin, Area Specialized Forestry Agent, in this
*free workshop. This 3-hour workshop relays the safety aspects
of using a chainsaw while also providing guidance on how to
deal with the forces that lead to injury. The class will consist of
2 hours of classroom presentation and 1 hour of field demonstration. Due to safety, this workshop is only for ages 16+.
*The workshop is free, but registration is required.

Grower's Certificate  


Grower’s Certificates are for agricultural products that are grown/raised/produced in Guilford County, North Carolina Certificates expire on December 31st, 2025. Grower’s Certificates are maintained by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Guilford County Center to certify producers who are selling agricultural products grown in Guilford County. Local farmer’s markets or other sellers may ask for a Grower’s Certificate to show that your products are from Guilford County. They can also serve as a marketing piece for your local foods!

Fermentation Lunch and Learn: Kombucha

Learn how to brew your own Kombucha in this class. Kombucha is a lightly effervescent, cider-like beverage, made by fermenting sweetened tea. It is produced using a starter culture of bacteria and yeasts called a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast).
