The Juneteenth Triad Farmers’ Market on June 19th was a blowout success with over 3,000 people in attendance. Food Security Coordinator Alyssa McKim, Food Security Program Assistant Melodie Melbouci, and FCS Agent Vincent Webb represented the NC Cooperative Extension at the event. A&T University interns, Rekiyah Bobbit and Arcanae Clark, also helped facilitate the event. The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers℠ hosted a “Ask A Gardner” booth at the NCCE table to answer gardening questions as well.

The Extension Master Gardenerâ„  Celebrate Pollinators Day event on June 14 was a sun-shining success in the Demo Garden! Polly Nater made an appearance, and there were giveaways at the event! There was a plant sale and a gently used sale as well. About 200 members of the community were in attendance.

What to Know About Soil Testing
Testing Services for Nutrients and pH is provided by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Soils Lab for free to North Carolina residents except during peak season (December 1- March 31) when there is a $4 fee. Soil test boxes are available at the Ag Center. Please mail your soil test boxes to the testing lab in Raleigh using the address listed on the form. Learn More

Come and see the entries of Guilford County’s Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers showing off their gardening knowledge and work in practice. From 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., vote for your favorite entry. While awaiting the determination of the judges, from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. enjoy a free gardening presentation, “Culinary Herbs” or take a tour of our on-site Demonstration Garden (weather dependent).

Pollinator Census

Attendees can participate anywhere from 15 minutes to the full 3 hours according to their preference, and may come at any point during the 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. time period. One count takes 15 minutes, and participants can take as many counts as they would like.

Med instead Meds - Recipe of the Month

This dish offers a quick, healthy twist on a classic egg roll.  The fragrant aromatics (onions, garlic, and ginger) add a familiar flavor to this classic food. Bag coleslaw or broccoli mix makes prep time super easy. Feel free to add peppers, chilis, or hot sauce to up the heat.  The Med Way includes plenty of healthy and nutritious meals that are also delicious and satisfying. We teach Eating the Med Way through the Family & Consumer Sciences Program.

Share the Harvest


June 10th-September, Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM at the Ag Center


Share the Harvest is starting back up and the Ag Center is serving as a collection site. The office will serve as a collection site for fresh produce donations.


How To Donate As A Gardener:


  • Drop off produce in the foyer.

  • Weigh the donation.

  • Record your name and produce details on the Share the Harvest Donation Form.

  • Place the produce in the crate next to the scale.

  • A Share the Harvest volunteer will pick it up on Mondays.

The Greater High Point Food Alliance's Urban Agriculture Committee hosted its annual Free Plant Giveaway at the High Point Farmers Market. The N.C. Cooperative Extension participated as a proud committee member. Vegetable, strawberry, and herb plants—grown and donated by High Point University’s horticulture department and Growing High Point urban farms—were shared with the community. Special thanks to members, Rachel Diaz, Faith Stutts, Emma Matrone, and Amanda Mitchell for their support!

Agriculture 

Grower's Certificate  


Grower’s Certificates are for agricultural products that are grown/raised/produced in Guilford County, North Carolina Certificates expire on December 31st, 2025. Grower’s Certificates are maintained by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Guilford County Center to certify producers who are selling agricultural products grown in Guilford County. Local farmer’s markets or other sellers may ask for a Grower’s Certificate to show that your products are from Guilford County. They can also serve as a marketing piece for your local foods!

Youth Voice 2025

August 22nd-23rd, 2025


 Pitt County, NC


Each year North Carolina 4-H partners with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners on a multi-year initiative to increase youth involvement in county government. This initiative helps youth learn more about county government as well as how to become more involved in local decision making. This is a great opportunity to meet other teens from across the state with similar interests!

June Round-Up

Guilford County 4-H has kicked off
their summer programs! They had 6
youth participate in the Hoofprints in
the Summer program. They have 14
youth participating in the Dairy Calf
Project, which uses 7 Jersey calves
from A&T State University’s dairy unit.
These youth will show at the Junior
Dairy Show on July 15th.

Mindful Eating

In this session, we'll cover what it means to eat mindfully which essentially means being attentive and aware of what you're eating and how affects your body. We'll ask questions such as "How does food make you feel?" or "What type of nutrients will this provide?"

· Free breakfast and lunch available to anyone under the age of 18 during the summer months

· Operates Monday through Thursday

· Meals served on campus
