Stanly 4-H Newsletter

Four Stanly 4-H'ers and two instructors gather around a park picnic table conducting water quality tests.

4-H'ers had a BLAST this Summer!

We have wrapped up another fun summer in Stanly County! Our annual Summer Blast program offered 12 different day-camps free of charge to Stanly 4-H’ers!

We visited UNCC Botanical Gardens, tasted cheeses, picked peaches at Sandhills Research Station, caught crayfish, grew plants, practiced knife skills, and more! If your child attended at least 1 Summer Blast session and you haven’t already, please share feedback in this short, anonymous Summer Blast Evaluation. Your feedback supports our efforts to “make the best better!”

We hope to see everyone again next year! Registration will open in the Spring.

Volunteers Mean More Stanly Co. 4-H Clubs!

We are hoping to continue growing our

4-H program by adding more clubs. Each club requires 2 volunteer leaders over the age of 21, and several clubs are ready to start meeting as soon as a 2nd leader is identified! If you would like to learn more about becoming a volunteer club leader, please contact the 4-H Office. Follow the link above to read the NC 4-H Club Leader job description.  These clubs are only waiting for a volunteer to get started:

  • Stanly County Rabbit Rangers

  • Nature & Wildlife Club

  • Kitchen Kids

  • General Interest Club

No subject matter expertise needed!

Time to plan for County Activity Day!

All Stanly County 4-H’ers are encouraged to participate in County Activity Day coming up this spring. Now is the time to start thinking about and developing a 5-7 minute presentation on a topic of your interest OR a 5min or less talent show performance. Participation in County Activity Day teaches valuable life skills and will be required to participate in the 2025 county livestock show. Contact our office or follow this link to learn more about 4-H Presentations and 4-H Entertains.

Pickin' in the Pines

Join Millstone 4-H Camp for a 21+ night of fun, food and music at the sixth annual Pickin in the Pines benefit concert in beautiful Ellerbe, North Carolina with first-class Bluegrass acts The Axe Handlers and The Po' Ramblin Boys! The "pickin area" opens at 3pm for a bluegrass jam - bring your own instrument and jam out! The first band hits the stage at 4:30pm. Tickets include entrance to the jam session, live music, a BBQ meal, and beer/wine.

Proceeds from this event provide Camperships for North Carolina youth to attend summer camp at Millstone. 6 of 12 Stanly 4-H’ers attended Millstone 4-H Camp this summer on a full scholarship, no doubt in part to fundraisers like Pickin’ in the Pines!
