Guilford County residents - your input is needed! In partnership with the NC Cooperative Extension - Guilford County Center, Guilford County has launched an online food system assessment survey to understand the strengths, challenges, and opportunities within the community's food system. The insights gathered from the community will play a key role in shaping initiatives aimed at ensuring equitable access to healthy, affordable, and culturally relevant food for all residents.
Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain confidential. The survey is estimated to take 10-15 minutes to complete. As a bonus for participation, all who fill out the survey will be entered to win one of five $100 gift cards!
Please scan the QR code or click the button below to access the survey! The survey is open until March 1st, 2025. Thank you in advance, your feedback is invaluable and will help change Guilford County's food landscape for the better!

The Guilford County Food Action Network (GCFAN) open meeting that occurred on January 29th, 2025 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM was a success! Community members, educators, and organizational leaders were invited to join along with the original members of GCFAN, which made for a very engaging and productive discussion! Thank you to all who attended; your contributions were invaluable and we look forward to more insightful GCFAN meetings!
What is GCFAN?

This month's spotlight goes to D-UP Inc.!
Founded by Jakki and Corvin Davis, D-UP originated as a Basketball Fundamentals and Skills Program in 2007. The name "D-UP" not only alludes to a term coined by basketball defense techniques but also encapsulates the program's core mission—to develop essential life skills, instill nutrition knowledge, and empower individuals to excel in life. In 2011, D-UP expanded its offerings to include Physical Activity, Nutritional Education, Academic Achievement, and Character Development (PNAC). Through committed partnerships, dedicated volunteers and staff and local funding initiatives, D-UP's journey continues to evolve; becoming a center for holistic learning, community engagement, and mental and physical health. D-UP's history is a testament to its enduring commitment to nurturing youth, families, and the community through comprehensive programs and unwavering dedication.
Jakki Davis, the Executive Director/Co-Founder of D-UP Inc., says, "D-UP was founded in 2007 to combat childhood obesity and develop character skills, but since moving to Washington Street in 2011, we now take a holistic approach to ensure that families are thriving by not only serving youth, but adults and families as well. Listening to our community and meeting their needs has always been important. Our community needs cannot be met with D-UP alone; thus, partnerships such as ours with the Guilford County Center - NC Cooperative Extension and others are necessary." Thank you, Jakki!
There are a few ways to get involved with D-UP Inc.!
1.) Donate money to D-UP Inc.! D-UP Inc. cares about our youth and strives to provide them with all the resources they need in order to become successful leaders in their home communities.
2.) Purchase a reclaimed Brick to be engraved and laid into the walls of D-UP's S.T.E.M., Gym + Arts Complex. Your contribution supports our fundraising goals which goes towards the construction, sustainability and future projects.
