Drought Stress in Loblolly Pine
Managing Trees Under Drought Conditions

North Carolina is facing drought conditions with many areas in severe to extreme drought. What does this mean for your forests?
The Forest Drought Response Index indicates some NC areas are abnormally dry or in moderate to extreme drought.
The good news is that drought alone usually does not kill mature trees. However, newly planted trees may require care. During drought, wildfire conditions remain high-risk; please take appropriate cautions.

NC Forest Service's Timber Loss Relief Program

Did you lose timber because of Hurricane Helene?
The N.C. Forest Service is offering a new disaster recovery program, the Timber Loss Relief Program, that will partially compensate eligible woodland owners in 39 disaster-declared counties for the value of timber loss because of Hurricane Helene. The deadline to apply is June 12th. Visit the N.C. Forest Service (TLRP) webpage to learn more and to subscribe to receive information about program eligibility, frequently
asked questions, the TLRP application process, and more.
