2023 Income of North Carolina Timber Harvested and Delivered to Mills

Extension Forestry has just released the most current economic data on the income derived from harvesting timber. These estimates provide information on both stumpage value and delivered value for timber harvested and delivered to mills. Landowners received an estimated $499.8 million in stumpage value and timber buyers received approximately $1.16 billion. The top five producing counties were Anson, Montgomery, Moore, Bertie, and Columbus Counties. Read more to find values for each North Carolina county and other North Carolina Facts.

Recent devastating wildfires have brought fire safety and preparedness to the forefront of many of our minds. Below is a list of recent fire-focused publications from NC State and partnering organizations.

Spring NC Bradford Pear Bounties

There are four Bradford Pear Bounties on the docket for spring 2025 in Wilson, Wilkes, Pasquotank, and Henderson* Counties! Remove your landscape Bradford pear or other planted cultivars of Pyrus calleryana and replace them with free, native trees. Homeowners who want to participate in this event must pre-register and bring proof of tree removal to the event.
*Henderson County bounty open to residents only.
Forestry Landowner Summit in Duplin County

Sign up for our Eastern Forestry Landowner Summit in Kenansville, NC, now scheduled for Wednesday, March 26th! This all-day event is designed for woodland and forest landowners who desire a deeper understanding of forestry and wildlife management. The event is meant to enable participants to make informed decisions concerning the management, enhancement, and enjoyment of their forest. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from foresters, wildlife biologists, university professors, and Extension specialists, as well as visit with non-profit and for-profit organizations exhibiting their products and services.

Join this county forestry meeting at the Jackson Cultural Center in Jackson, NC. Contact your Northampton County Extension Agent for more information.

March 6th, 2025 (Th), 12 - 1 PM ET, NC Tree Farm Program: Small Woodlot Management: Overcoming Challenges. Forest fragmentation happens every time a piece of land is split or divided, making it more challenging to implement traditional forest management practices. This presentation will focus on how small woodlot owners can overcome some of those management challenges and the forest management stand improvement practices that any landowner can do, even on a very small scale. March 6th, 2025 (Th), 6 - 8 PM ET, Hertford County Forestry Landowner Meeting. March 15th, 2025 (Sat), 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM ET, Project Learning Tree Explore Your Environment K-8 Workshop.
Join preservice teachers, K-8 classroom and nonformal educators at the Fort Fisher Aquarium in Kure Beach, NC as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree Explore Your Environment K-8 Activity Guide. March 19th, 2025 (W), 1 - 2 PM ET, Native Forest Insect Pests of the Southern US: Biology, Management, and Impact. In this webinar, Dr. John Nowak will give an update on pine pests impacting the southeast and discuss their biology, impact, and common management tactics. March 21st, 2025 (F), 1 - 4 PM ET, Helene Forestry Recovery Workshop. Forest landowners suffered a tremendous loss of investment when Hurricane Helene leveled 822,000 acres of forestland. Many have been scrambling to determine what options are available to restore their forests to something desirable and manageable.
