North Carolina Standing Timber Prices: 2nd Quarter 2025 Overview
Analysis of standing timber prices in North Carolina for the second quarter of 2025 reveals a market characterized by regional variations and distinct product-specific performance. In Western NC, the market generally exhibited an upward trend since the 2nd quarter of 2024. In contrast, the Eastern NC market did not perform as favorably. Overall, sawtimber products, particularly Oak, consistently commanded higher prices and often demonstrated stronger growth across both regions. Pulpwood categories, however, exhibited greater price volatility and, in several Eastern NC instances, a downward trend.

Spotted Lanternfly Confirmed in Caldwell County
In late June, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) announced the spotted lanternfly (SLF) was confirmed in Caldwell County, making it the fourth positive county in the state and the second positive county found this year. Remember, this invasive pest poses a significant threat to agriculture (particularly grapevines), fruit trees, and hardwood trees, by feeding on plant sap and excreting honeydew that promotes sooty mold growth. Not only are they a huge annoyance, they can kill grapevine, reduce fruit production, and stress our trees.
If you spot SLF? Snap a picture and report it! See it, Snap it, Report it, Squash it!
