North Carolina Standing Timber Prices: A Year (2025) in Review

2025 Final Quarter NC Standing Timber Prices are now available!
Analysis reveals a stark contrast between the Eastern and Western regional markets. Markets in Western NC were more favorable for landowners selling higher-quality hardwood timber. Conversely, Eastern NC markets were better suited for landowners focused on moving low-quality timber, such as pine pulpwood.

From the US Forest Service: "New legislation enacted in 2025 reinstates and makes permanent several tax provisions affecting forest landowners and introduces new incentives for capital investment. While many provisions take effect in 2026, some apply to the 2025 tax year. The updated Timber Tax Tips publication is intended as a practical reference foresters can use when discussing management options, timing decisions and long-term planning with landowners, in coordination with tax professionals." National Invasive Species Awareness Week

February 23 – 27, 2026 is National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW). This year's theme is Defending our Health by Stopping the Spread. Learn more about NISAW, find webinars, and ways to participate on the North American Invasive Species Management Association website »

Join preservice teachers, K-8 classroom and nonformal educators at the Cabarrus County Soil and Water Office in Concord, NC as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree Explore Your Environment K-8 Activity Guide. February 11th, 2026 (W), 1 - 2 PM ET, An Overview of Timber Taxes Webinar. Understanding both the forestry-specific provisions and the general tax rules that affect your management activities can significantly reduce your overall tax liability through strategic planning. But tax planning becomes even more critical when a natural disaster strikes. Storms, wildfires, and other catastrophic events can damage or destroy timber, and the tax implications of that loss can be complex. In this webinar, Dr. Yanshu Li will provide an overview of timber taxation, with a special focus on how natural disaster-related timber damage, losses, and recovery efforts are treated under current tax law. February 17th, 19th, 26th, 2026 (Tu, Th, Th), 9 AM - 4 PM ET, Writing Comprehensive Forest Management Plans Workshop Series. Foresters and other natural resource professionals who write forest management plans for woodland owners are invited to attend one of three workshops on Writing Comprehensive Forest Management Plans. Attendees will learn about different types of plans (management plans, practice plans,
burn plans, cost-share plans, etc.) and the specific requirements of Present Use Valuation,
Forest Stewardship Program and American Tree Farm System plans. Training will include a comparison of program requirements and review of management plans to determine
eligibility for program participation. Upon completion of the class, attendees will be
equipped to write qualifying management plans for PUV, Stewardship, and Tree Farm.
