Growing Degree Day Calculator Displays a Warm Spring
April saw record-high Growing Degree Days (GDDs) in western NC. GDDs are a way to track heat, and this year, the GDDs in Laurel Springs indicate spring is ahead of schedule -- 11 days earlier than last year. What does this mean? For insects, like cryptomeria scale on Christmas trees, we are on track to have earlier emergence than normal. Keep your eye out for critters!
