2024 Income of North Carolina Timber Harvested and Delivered to Mills

North Carolina 2024 income data reveals a value of $485.2 million in timber harvest, with $1,156 million representing wood delivered to mills, which is down slightly from 2023. The top 5 highest ranking counties for delivered timber income values for the 2024 year are Anson, Montgomery, Beaufort, Bertie, and Columbus Counties. NC's 30.9 million acres of land remained distributed between reserved forest land (2%), unreserved forest land (58%), and non-forest land (40%). 85% of the 18 million acres of unreserved forestland that is classified as timberland is owned by private landowners.

NC Arbor Day

This year, North Carolina’s Arbor Day falls on Friday, March 20, 2026! This date was chosen in accordance with the best tree-planting times for NC.

Every year, we celebrate by highlighting Arbor Day-related resources with fellow NC forestry organizations. Keep an eye on our socials and website »

Coming Events of Interest to Woodland Owners

March 6th, 2026 (Fri), 2 - 5 PM ET, Timber Loss Relief Program for Forest Landowners (Rutherfordton). If you lost timber during Hurricane Helene, you may qualify for relief! This FREE workshop in Rutherfordton, NC will cover who qualifies for the program, how to apply, and what resources are available to mitigate wildfire risk and non-native invasive species. March 10th, 2026 (Tu), 9 AM - 4:30 PM ET, Duff in the Sandhills Fire Science Workshop. Consortium of Appalachian Fire Managers and Scientists and the Southern Fire Exchange will be hosting this duff workshop in Southern Pines, North Carolina at the Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve. There will be a field trip portion at the preserve. Emphasis will be placed on practical, low-cost techniques, like duff moisture testing and multi-stage burns, making fire science accessible and actionable for a wide range of landowners and fire practitioners. March 10th, 2026 (Tu), 9:30 AM - 3 PM ET, Preserve, Plan, and Prosper: Protecting Farm and Forest Resources in NC. North Carolina is ranked Number One across the nation for farmland loss due to low density residential development. Join us for an interactive workshop at Isothermal Community College in Spindale, NC, where you will hear from a variety of speakers and have a chance to interact with attorneys and nonprofit farmland preservation and conservation organizations, including the Land Loss Prevention Project, Black Family Land Trust, Inc., and Roanoke Cooperative’s Sustainable Forestry and Land Retention Project. March 11th, 2026 (W), 6 - 8 PM ET, Halifax County Forestry Meeting. All private timberland owners in Halifax County as well as those involved in the timber industry, are invited to Halifax's forestry management meeting at the Halifax Extension Office. March 17th, 2026 (Tu), 9 AM - 3:30 PM ET, Project Learning Tree Explore Your Environment K-8 Workshop @ Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center. Join preservice teachers, K-8 classroom and nonformal educators at the Cabarrus County Soil and Water Office in Statesville, NC as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree Explore Your Environment K-8 Activity Guide. March 21st, 2026 (Sat), 9 - 11 AM ET, NC Bradford Pear Bounty (Clay County). This program encourages homeowners to remove their landscape Bradford pear or other planted cultivars of Pyrus calleryana (e.g., Chanticleer, Cleveland Select, Aristocrat) and replace them with free, native trees. Homeowners who want to participate in this event must pre-register and bring proof of tree removal to the event. Replacement trees are in 3-gallon containers, and there are many native species to choose from. Up to 5 pear trees can be removed for up to 5 free replacements. First-come, first-served for tree species selection. This exchange is free and open to the public; pre-registration is required to ensure tree pick-up runs smoothly. April 9th, 2026 (Th), 9 AM - 3 PM ET, Conservation Equipment Field Day. Join landowners and natural resource staff as we explore equipment options, management techniques, and professional assistance available to help you meet your conservation goals for your property at the Union County Ag and Event Complex in Monroe, NC!
